Warn Winch questions

I have just been offered this Warn winch which was removed from a Prado. I was wondering if anyone had access to a wiring diagram for the solenoid box to the winch motor. And does anyone have an idea what model this is and how old would it be? As you can see by the photos I cant read the sticker.
Would it be a good deal @ $500 NZD or would I be better off buying a new Chinese winch for $800

Hi mate,

If the car was an ex gov car it is likely to be a warn XD9000. By the looks of that winch you will need to commit to doing a rebuild on it mate.

I reckon it probably spent a bit of time underwater and by the rust on the brace rod it is probably salt water. If this is a free bee go for it, put $300 into it and you might have an ok winch.

If you are too pay to buy this then i would be taking the motor off and the gear end cap and checking out the internal. It might not be worth grabbing if you have to pay good money for it. you might find better elsewhere

x 2. My sentiments aswell, you would want to make sure the motor is in good working order before spending $$$ on it.

More than 20 years old would be my guess.

Pull down and repack could be a good thing.

Even if it is all good, wouldn't pay over 300 looking at the external condition.

Thanks guys, thinking $500 was a bit steep, will check out the gearbox and motor tonight then if its ok will try to negotate down the price. Thinking might be better off buying a new Chinese one off our local 4x4 shop and comes with a 2 year warranty.

A two year warranty is no good if your stuck in the bush for a few days. :)

It's better to stick with quality in the first place. A rebuilt 20 YO Warn is still better than a chinese winch IMHO.
