dmax

Ok who's got one, and wat problems or issues have u had with them?
Im looking at buying one soon and wanted to hear some real facts on fuel economy, any niggling issues etc. Ive heard some people are getting up to 900kms out of a tank....but this was from a dealers mouth

ive just pick my new rc colorado.. same engine as the dmax.. and i've gotten almost 400km on half a tank. half freeway half town driving.. and about 50% air con on/off.

I got mine on saturday and getting around the same so far. Only a bit of highway but with air on 99%!

HI,
I have just purchased a D-Max 4x4 dual cab with canopy, bull bar,towbar etc. Very happy but early days.
Only done 1156kms so far but when I first filled the tank I did
556 km on 45 ltrs (squeezed it in)which worked out at about 35mpg in old speak.
Bearing in mind thats fairly gentle driving.
More economical than my previous 3 ltr Nissan Patrol.
Time will tell as to how it goes.

Hi,
Just filled second tankfull. Wasnt empty but I decided to top it off.

44 ltrs for 513 kms. Works out to 33 mpg.

622 km for 51 ltres

34.7 mpg.

any little problems showing up with these yet?

im assuming most would have been ironed out due to them bein available elsewhere in the world for a long time.

ive just passed 2000k with mine and cant report any faults yet.. touch wood. I'm still getting around 480 ish from half a tank..

the only thing that pissed me off was the front drink holders are to close to the dash so we couldnt fit most drinks in it upright, but that was a easy 10min fix by moving the consol back, but that is the only thing.....pretty good in my books lol

I was all set to buy one, after it won " 2009 ute of the year" in 4wd action. I thought, I may as well check out the Colorado (equal 2nd). Holden have the, IMO, sexier front end, more colour choices, exact same low range driveline which is the main reason the D Max won, air was standard (I don't think it was with the Dmax), a couple of grand cheaper, The Lion Badge etc etc.....
Long story short, it was delivered to Holden, went straight to ARB, had it for just over 2 weeks and it's due for it's 3,000 service (1st). I have the 127 ltr long range tank and I got 1100 km's after mixed terrain driving with air con.

We have about 2400km on ours, avg about 9.5L/100Km. 3Hrs in low range was 18L/100Km.

It is possible to get even better and in theory ours should improve as it gets more Km on it. It's easy to use more fuel too!

anyone got an auto in the colarado or d max?
what sort of fuel usage are you getting?
how are you finding it towng wise?

HI,
I posted previously regards my Dmax, still happy approaching 4000 kms now. No problems evident.
Towed my caravan well, did it more easily than my previous Gu 3 ltr man or the auto 4.5 80 series prior to that.
Will admit that its not so offroad capable as the Gu or the 80 but I'm not bothered about that so much these days.
Economy still as previously stated ...did 392 for 32 ltrs last fill up. Works out to 35 mpg again.

Is yours the auto or manual? About not being as capable, what type of offroad have u done? I imagine u wouldnt get much flex out of the front obviously, but the rear should go alright i thought? Also hows the lsd go, iv driven one on road but havent had the chance to go off yet, but am keen on buying one.

Both my GU and 80 were raised about 100mm with diff locks etc but towards the last cple of years I developed a sore back etc which basically stopped me going full on 4wding due to needing a week to recover.
I still like touring etc though with mild 4wding included which suits the Dmax.
I suppose with lockers ,raised suspension the Dmax would become very capable but with IFS never going to be as good as the previous two were offroad simply due to wheel travel on front end and not really being able to get the same clearences ie hieght as you can with coil vehicles.
If you are wanting to be a full on climb any mountain type 4wder then I suggest you consider alternatives for the above reasons. I think you would at least have a lot of panel damage if you tried to follow the big boys.
Horses for courses I say and if you are buying a new vehicle then why would you want to bash it around anyway?
I personally cant afford too.
These are only my thoughts and obviously others may not agree but I hope I have replied to your question as required.

Yeh iv had my fair share of lifted patrol, hiluxes etc. I know the dmax wouldnt be as capable but still keen on one. I wouldnt be bashing it around too much, im generally pretty easy on my 4bs.
Iv searched around and theres not a great deal of 2nd hand dmaxs about, main reason id buy new. Im still tryin to decide what to buy for my next car, will definately be a twin cab, tossing up between a new dmax, 2nd hand hilux or 2nd hand 130 defender.
Whatever i buy will get at least a rear locker and mild lift (2-3"). The dmax or hilux would be much nicer on road and as a dd, but the fender is better for more serious 4wding. Planning another cape trip next yr so time to get rid of my old POS and upgrade.
