going down the freeway the other day, gearbox developed a whine in 5 gear.
checked the oil , one liter in the gearbox, was not empressed cars only done 160ks,toped it up and whine got a little better but still noisey, anyway checked the oil in the diffs and the tranfer,2 and one half liters of oil came out of the filler hole in the tranfer case[know were the oil went now] looks like a rebuild.

anyway it needs a new clutch soon anyway,is this a common problem with pajeros[vsm31]and could someone tell me were to go and get a good rebuild kit from,[maybe ebay]i remember the toyotas haveing this problem a few years ago[oil going through the seal to the tranfer]and is there a fix for this problem [a adaptor made up to go from gearbox oil filler hole to the tranfer case oil filler hole,so that the oil can go back to the gear boxfrom the tranfer case.

Damn you! - Now I will have to crawl under my NL and check the levels in my boxes.

If you are pumping oil from the gearbox to the transfer case, obviously a seal has gone. Toyotas were famous for doing this, and eventually someone came up with a simple solution - insert a tube into the filler plugs of both the gearbox and the transfer case, and connect them with a flexible tube. The levels will then at least stabilise - hopefully the transfer case is about the same level as the gearbox.
