Hilux oil

Hey all
when ever I change the oil my 91 hilux with the diesel 2.8litre 3L engine the new oil always runs thru black

this can't normal can it ??? And how do ya get it to run thru clean

Sorry just to clarify it always shows up
black at the dip stick and I change the filter,
warm up the engine and I've tryed those additives that
claim to clean out engines

It's a diesel that is nearlly 20 years old I don't think it will come out clean mate, diesels filth up the oil because the motor is full of soot from the diesel fuel being burnt I wouldn't waste any more money on addatives

+1, always thought diesel motors had black oil.....

When I had my 2.8, I drained about half the oil then added about the same amount of desiel into the oil. Ran it at idle for 5 minutes then drained. Then toped it up with desiel and ran again at idle for 2 - 3 minutes then drained. Never had a problem with the engine. Always changed the oil and filter ever 5000km's. The desiel is just a light oil so it won't hurt the engine.

You only need to change the oil and drive around the block, then the oil is black again. There is no escaping it mate, diesel engines run filthy black.

If you do a search, you will find alot regarding cem oil flush, and other advice, which may damage your motor using diesel instead of oil.

When I got my hilux, I did an oil change, ran for a few hrs, change again, another run, change again, run next day, change it, and then after a week changed it, and after a few weeks changed it again.

Yes I did the filter each time as well.

Reason being, was that the previous owner didnt maintain the vehicle, and used non diesel oil.
It was like thick honey that wouldnt pour out of a jar till you tipped it right upside down, it was that thick.

It went thru a period of burning 1ltr oil between changes for 2 oil changes, then the rings freed up, and it dosent burn any now.

Diesel oil holds the soot from diesel combustion, this is what makes it black.
If its not properly serviced, the oil will become saturated with soot, and the entire inside of the motor is coated in the stuff.
Thats what the cem, and other flushes usually aid in getting rid of when used.
However if you just do some frequent oil changes, and allow the detergents in the oil to do their job, they will eventually strip this build up from the motor, and if you change often enough, will eventually clean the inside of the motor up so that when you replace your oil, you will get 500 or 1000km before the oil is jet black again.

What ive done, I know it works, and what I reccomend before.

Ps, DO NOT USE DIESEL in the sump as an engine flush.

Only time ive seen this done was when the diesel mecs had a motor in for a total rebuild, and they were too lazy to spend hrs cleaning it, so they would run it on diesel.
Yes it cleaned up the inside of the motor, but It was no good for the bearings.
Your small diesels have over 1 tonne of pressure on each firing stroke, so that is alot of pressure on the bearings if you dont have oil there, and are using a very poor lubricant such as diesel.
Plus you could fume up and the motor could run away on its own fumes, unlikely on a cold motor, but a risk all the same of which I would not do.
