Just wondering what options their are for engine conversions for a jimny as i have a mate who has one and wants more power?
would the twin cam swift or g16b fit ok?

keep the jimny top end setup and throw a 1.6 bottom end on it with 1.6 injectors... that will keep the airbox etc in the right position and should be a relatively cheap swap =)

X2.
Should pick up about 15% more power and 20% more torque.
The added torque will help heaps.
Steve.
Im the friend with the Jimny

Anywhere on the sunshine coast you can do this conversion for cheap
What would the price range be?
I love my Zook but it just doesn't have the power it used to.
It is very thirsty! I thought it would be better on the consumption...

the 1.6 wont help fuel economy.... its bigger bore and more power (and youll use that power too, trust me).
its easy enough to do - just grab any 1.6 bottom end and the 1.6 EFI pistons. Pretty much just a bolt on job - although given my past experience, do the rings etc while its apart and know its spot on after that =)

I'm way too new to this,
what is a 1.6 bottom end? i guess it would be the bottom of the block?
are you saying that the only difference between 1.3 and 1.6 is the bore?
I'm looking to learn allot before i commence the SUZI SURGERY!

this sounds very simple?
makes me think... is it really that simple,
i mean there are allot of stuff under the hood.
Step 1- take out old stuff
step 2- put in new stuff
?

What these guys are suggesting you do is..........
Take the head, inlet manifold and all fuel injection off you current motor ( this is refered to as the 'top end')
Then BOLT IN!! a vitara or baleno G16 Block ( this is the lower part with the sump, crank and pistons, refered to as the 'Bottom end'). You will need the bottom end from a 16 valve G16 motor, OR fit the 16v pistons to the bottom end from an 8v G16 motor.
Then just bolt your 'top end' onto the new G16 'Bottom end'.
This is the easiest conversion.
Another way to go would be to fit a complete G16 16v motor.

Wouldn't it be better with a G16B, Years 1998+, twin coil, Baleno motor bottom end ?
They have the hole in the block for the crank sensor. ( I think Jimny's G13B's have the same setup, twin coil, cam and crank sensor etc.)
Vits run 1 coil and dizzy..So different setup in block? Do vits G16B have the hole for the crank sensor?..

Im confused if its a 96 build its a sierra. Jimney didn't start until 98 in aus.
If its a Jimney 98-99 everyone uses a G16b from baleno swap cam sump and pickup with some mods. If thats a typo and its an 06 m13 bolt in an m15 only have to change sump and pick upband they drop straight in so long as you check if or if not they both have vvt.

so guys in saying all that about useing the bottom end of the 1.6 does this need custom engine mount or will it use the original 1.3 ones...?
have bent a conrod in my 99 jimny and am thinking this would be a better option then replaceing the 1.3

why not bolt in the M18 from the liana?
M13A 1.3L I4 63kW@6000rpm 110Nm@4100rpm (Jimny)
M15A 1.5L I4 74kW@6000rpm 133Nm@4000rpm (2007 Swift)
M16A 1.6L I4 73kW@5900rpm 139Nm@4100rpm (Current shape GV)
M18A 1.8L I4 92kW@5500rpm 170Nm@4200rpm (Liana)

Cos its not a bolt in. The 99 Jim was a G series motor. G16B would be a much better swap than just doing the bottom end and using BB head.
