gas setup in 308,hilux(pics),its letting me down,any advice

hey guys, i have a dedicated gas setup(pics below) and its a bit of a Frankenstein setup. it works, how well im not sure but i have no prob starting and have power so not sure.
anyway, i want to go to gas research cos its gotta be way less complected and i think it'll be less touchy.
has anyone got any advise how i could improve on this setup or should i just go the hole hog????

is that a 425 on a baseplate? or does it still run full carb?
only way to make it more tidy would be to use a throttle body set up instead
but if it aint broke etc ..........
what do you what to acheive?
if you just want it neater then you may be out of luck gas systems are generally ugly imo
if you want more power then the throttle body setup may be the way to go(gas research style) maybe even twin system????
a good impco 425 on a holley base plate should produce enough power for most 4wd applications but that is you decision to make.....

not sure what it is, i kind of built it up from bits i had haha, i think it runs ok but im not sure its entirely bulletproof, as in it dose some funny things when i go 4x4'ing, like revs go up or down on idle and i have to keep adjusting on the carb, i think it all boils down to the diaphragm in the mixer being the problem, as it changes everything if its wet, hot, ect...
i think maybe a gas research setup would be a bit more tougher to outside elements.

Put gasresearch on it, less restriction and more tuneable, more power and economy when done right.

you may also find that the std hilux air box may be a bit restrictive for the v8.

Ill put down go G/R too. I picked up great power on my falcon when i went to a throttle body setup over a plate on a carby. A stock 308 wont make much snot so i wouldnt worry about your airbox setup.

Yeah gas research are the crem, $$$$$ though. Had gas on my old 308, it was a pig in every respect, gas research will be massive improvement.
But for the $$$, go fuel injection! Pic up 304 pretty cheap, more power, reliable, and not bad on fuel considering its a dirty 5.0 litre. Best thing ive done to date.

Just change your mixer to an impco 425. The are a complete carby replacment. They bolt straight onto a 4 barrel holley baseplate.

There is an air swirl device in the filter, it slows the air and has a massive impact on perfomance and the operation of the LPG when yau attach a considerable larger engine to it.

I run an AU falcon factory gas throttle body on my 253, just bolted it to the holley adaptor, it works a treat, but I also run a HEI distributor and an MSD ignition, plus run a vn v8 air box.

I don't understand what's wrong with it. As said if it's still got a petrol carby under there I guess you could ditch that and just run a throttle body. It does look like the top cover is bigger than it needs to be so you could probably clean it all up a bit... but I would personally want a good reason to replace the whole lot if it's working fine.
