Hey fellas, had a good Christmas have we?
Im having issues visualizing what intake geometry ill need to achieve the best air dispersal around my cooler.
Ive made a quick paint sketch of the designs im thinking as for up and down dispersal, i have another pic to the RHS of the front and back dispersal diagram that needs to be finished too

have a look on lcool there was great thread on intercooler and intercooler design just recently, one of the posters is the guy behind the safari intercoolers
I would say a cross between your rounded bottom entry and the funnel style. The rounded bottom entry has nothing directing air to flow through the lower section of the core. as it flows from turbo it will travel straight until it hits the bend, then follow the outer radius of hte bend until it hts the core. Being pressurised it will find its way through all of the core. yoou are better off optimising flow

I would suggest your "long" edge flow will be far hard to even out than the top / bottom flow your baffles are aimed at.
Personally, if you are willing to take some flow loss to improve cooling efficiency - I would blow "across" perpendicular to the core.

How are exiting the cooler
direction changes do most of what your chassing.
straight though designs like the barrels dont do much
80's_delirious is spot on saying that being pressured it will fill the core.

I agree with this. Try to set up your outlet so that the distance from the inlet to the outlet is the same for any part of the core, ie diagonally opposite.
I honestly think that trying to picture flow is a bit meaningless with this kind of stuff, the fact is that you have a high pressure chamber on one side and a lower pressure chamber on the other and the air is going to take every pathway it can find to get through. It's like queues at the supermarket.
Just my opinion, I know it is probably an odd view.

Unless the core is very large, with minimal pressure difference, and then it will matter.
The mass when under pressure is not negligible.

Another vote for funnel style as this would encourage even dispersion accross the core, you basically want to acheive even distribution accross the entire core to maximise the efficiency as i believe air is like water, it likes to take the path of least resistance.

This one has got me thinking too much lol...
Perhaps turbulence is the key to achieve good distribution?
Maby the square edged bottom entry will achieve this, the air is forced up onto the top which is a flat surface. Bounces every which way and fills evenly...
Please tell me if in thinking too much for a POS 4.2L oil burner lol

Definately thinking too much mate! I think funnel style, and looking at it top down; arrow/funnel style aswell would be more than adequate.
I dont think flow is going to be much of a problem at your boost levels
.

I dont think id agree with the square entry
wouldnt that cause the the air to hit the flat surface and be sent directly back to the turbo ?
And cause cavitation ?
