80 brake booster issues

hey fellas,

have experienced a bit of an issue with my brakes in that there is no assist. not long ago (2-3months) i replaced the blades in the vacuum pump after it did the same thing (no vacuum to booster).

I have checked the lines from the brake booster itself to the vacuum pump and it seems like vacuum is getting lost somewhere after the pump. I have disco'd the vac lines at the booster, at the reservoir and after the pump. I can feel a some suction when i start at the vacuum pump but it gets real weak by the time it reaches the booster.

on the reservoir theres a check valve thats been tested and works and a switch. i have broken the tab off the switch but i dont think its got anything to do with my issues.

I have bypassed the reservoir with some air hose and it didnt change much.

I removed the vacuum pump from the engine this morning and cleaned/checked the check valve on the pump but it was in fine working order when i put it back in. I thought maybe it wasnt sealing properly cos when i pulled it off to repair the first time there was a heap of gasket goo as well as the factory seal in place, so I used some gasket goo when i refitted the pump back this morning.

put it all back together and fired it up to find that the same thing was happening. theres slight vacuum at the booster end that gets stronger as you go closer to the pump.

so a couple of questions. 1) whats that switch do? I thought it would light up the dash "brake" light when there is no vacuum. I guess it wont do that if the tab isnt connected to the switch.
and 2) what else can I look at or bypass to try and get some vacuum to the brake booster
3) how much vacuum does it need to operate?

sucks not being able to drive the 80 ... :(
