345 hemi??? not a 392? is it a hemi? or just a chrysler? i havnt heard of a small block hemi, except for the 6 cylinders.

btw, i voted cleveland v8. cheapest engine to make 400hp. i supose, after 400hp, i would vote chev.

Japs and poms make all aluminium ones. I like the Jap ones, they are light with heaps of technology and nearly bulletproof. (Nissan VH45, and Toyota 1-UZFE)

Chev.. everything else is just weak

i like it? but i remember goin to the drags and wathing the GATT boys tack weld the caps on a dead stock 351 2 bolt bottom end, slap on the heads and their blower and push that lard arse xb into the 8's.
:bad-words:
have owned more chevs than fords but to get a chev into big hp you gotta put on cantered style heads (which are std on fords)
last chev i had was a blown 383 and if i was to play v8's again i would go 372+ci ford with yates c3 heads. easy mega hp

I wanted to use a Toyota V8 in my cruiser I like the idea of a modern bent eight and the price is very very good, but it just got all too hard. in the end I went the tried and true holden 308. I would have just as soon used a chev I would have prob preferd to use one but I got the 308 for the right price.

Rover 215 cu V8. Ligth, torquey, cheap, easy to use/work on, and, more importantly, there is one for every wheeler.

Wooders wrote:Come on lads what about say a 528 Hemi

from that site:
"The Hemi design is superior to Chevrolet. The block is stronger because it is skirted below the main bearings and the cross bolting ties the sides of the skirted block into the mains. The Hemi head is the most efficient design for combustion and flow because of the shape of the chamber and the alignment of the intake to exhaust port also the spark plugs are located in the center of the chamber which produces the best flame propagation. This is why it is necessary for Chevy motors to have 100 or 200 more cubic inches than the Chrysler. If you make any motor big enough it can produce a large amount of power, however it is far less efficient than the Hemi and the inferior block design would certainly fail much sooner. I think it's funny that the Hemi design is over 50 years old and if Chevrolet isn't having weight added to the Chryler cars to handicap them in racing than they are having them banned from racing (1965 Nascar and 1960-1980 Pro stock). Now Chevrolet has Hemi motors custom made for top fuel drag racing, the center fire plugs are hidden with a cover that display's a bowtie emblem. Chevy has had 50 years to produce somthing better, but they use their efforts to hinder the technology and achievements of others only to eventualy copy and disguise as their own. Chevy must have great resources, why can't they use them to produce new and interesting technology ?. I like technology and truth, and I will give credit where it is deserved."

Well atm ive got a very lightly modified but for the best part standard Holden 308 in the patrol, but i want to biuld a high HP stroker motor and curious as to whether i should go another holden and push her out to 370 or get a small block chev, or run this Hemi i have.
Not keen on the ford motors but still wanted the opinion.

go a 383 chev.

if your rebuilding a 350, it doesnt cost that much more to stroke it.

new crank and pistons (i needed new ones anyways after rebore), bitta block grinding and its in.

a mate had a 383 in his cruiser too. but he removed it for a 454. he recons his 383 was way better.

wrong :D reading the mopar madness mag the other day and there is a 620 cubic inch 1680hp out of a crate mopar coming out in the new performance based "bee stinger" Rams.

but yeah, if you dont have close to 90,000 USD then a 440 would be ok.

thats really poor for a hemi, 568ci and only 690hp?
the ol E49 spec 265 was pulling 302 ponnies standard and that was 30 years ago. Had NO problems blowing the doors of a GT HO or GTS of the same era.

you want an all alloy 454cubic inch small block chev?

keith black, dart, and all these joints can make them, but youd have to learn how to drive with only 1 arm and 1 leg.

and they still do !!!!!

My RT was and is still the quickest thing I have ever driven ...... absolutely awsome acceleration.
Many fond memories of blowing off GTHO's and leaving the owners wondering what was wrong with their phord shyte box!

Best thrill was knocking her back to third at 100 MPH and planting the foot .... the rear seat passengers would shyte
