I'm after a set of 235/75/r15's
for the zook. I'm wondering what you guys
are running on your Sierras?

i had a set of Westlakes. good and cheap.
its a good starting point. but if i was a betting man (and i am, i really, really am) you will be on 31's within a year, so i'd save your pennies and get a suspension lift if you dont already have one.

Yeah I have one on there at the moment. Only 40mm.
Bout to a 50mm body, and put in a WT transfer and a
set of rockhopper gears. I have a set of old 235s on there at the moment. But they are shagged. So yeah... I'm on the hunt but in no rush.
Thought I'd look around and see what I can find.

bash the crap outa the guards and chuck 31s under there =)

as for which ones - tell us what terrain you're driving - or head to general 4x4 tech - theres a tyre topic for nearly every decent brand.

I do mainly rock driving, but the odd mud pit
and sand dune. I would love to get the Maxxis Creepys in either
a 31 or 30... but Ive been told they dnt make em, i was also
looking at the Maxxis Bighorn. supposed to be a good tyre
for the money... got quoted $190 per tyre fitted and balanced
and that was for a 31"

downside of maxxis is they measure a fair bit under their stated size (unless things have changed?).

I had cooper STTs which were a great all round tyre - good on mud/rock/sand and road...

I've since gone simex ETs (centipedes) and theyre far superior in mud and about the same on rock. not tested on sand and worse for cornering on road - but honestly - i love them, i think theyre better than the STT for the offroad driving i do - even though my zuk is my DD and road driving suffers, i still prefer to have them on as my budget would not allow a set of play tyres and road tyres.

Something else to look at are the swampers... similar to the ETs but a little more tread in the centre of the tyre, which would likely help on road behaviour.

Yeah, I checked out the Swampers... can't
get a price though. Would you have any idea what
they're worth in a 31"?

What engine you running?

We got a LWB that dropped 31 STT's under it... murdered the power... Ted from RooTED has also commented on the problems of too much rubber and power loss before.

'Pedes are good as you can get them in a 29", hoever i've found that though i love them, they don't "stick" on rocks like the JT's seem to.

The Silverstone MT117's seem to have the same pattern as the 'pedes, with a softer compound.. search for the odd thread.

i had my pedes on rock last week - dry and powdery clay on top, you couldnt walk on it it was that slippery - and the pedes ate it up at 10psi (hadrly bagging). Im very impressed with them.

a true 31" swamper is a 32" and you would be looking at about the $400 mark.
sounds like you have lowered your gearing so maybe you wont smoke you clutch on every hill.

Go Maxxis Trepadors...

I have them in 31" on my Suzuki atm. With a good 1.3, extractors and 6.5 t/case gears I can cruise at 100 - 110 fairly easily. There seems to be a lot of variation in how the 1.3 L motors run though.

swampers are a great tyre offroad but not for road use
