hay guys
i got a 1992 gq patrol
and i am having problems with the brakes
as i push the pedal it gets hard then releses when motor is turned off
when i turn the motor on the pedal stays soft and goes straight to the floor it still pulls it up but over a very long distance also it has a clicking noise coming from the back left wheel / brake i just done a 2inch lift on it and i checked the spring on the brake restrictor above the diff and it seemed fine this problem has only just come up i have only had it off road once scence i got the new lift on it and it was ok for about 4/5 days and now i got this problem
o and its not using any fluid

i no it could be
brake booster
brake restrictor
can low brake pads cause this problem??
any help would be great as i am unsure what to do or where to start
thanks
jason

Did you use extended brake lines? or in any way break into the system?

They are a shocker to bleed properly, hardest of any car I have ever done.

IMO bleed and bleed some more, then bleed a little more.... Oh and twice more just for good luck!!:)

I have driven a few before who's owners thought the brakes where as good as they get, GQs actually have pretty great brakes when they have been bleed properly and the load proportioning valve gets set correctly, it took a lot of general mucking about to get mine working fantastic but it is possible.

best of luck!!

Certainly worth a try but buy x3 the fluid just incase :), I have never driven a GQ serviced for money that has had the brakes properly bled, good enough to pass a roadworthy but never yet to the non-fading, non spongy, rock solid brake pedal that is possible if determined.

Regardless I think for problem like this bleeding is almost always the best place to start, it sounds classic to me.

hey mate i ended up sending it to a mec because i just had enough of it and i found out today that there where a few problems with it
for
1. front rotors where the wrong size mine where 295 where they were ment to be 306
2 as the rotors where to small that front pads where touching each other
3 the back passanger side calopper slides are seized inplace
and have completely destroyed what pads where there

as mine is a 1992 made in the 7th month and on the 2nd month of 92 they changed the size of the brake rotors from 295's to 306mm it is a easy mistake to make ( i was not the one that put new brake rotors on ) i am not that stupid lol

thanks for ur help mate
