cant get the reversing lights to work

gday all
i just picked up a cheap hilux from the auctions a 1992 4x4 with the 3l engine in it. i took it in for a road worthey the other day and the one of the areas that it failed on was the reversing light didn't work when i put the transmission in to reverse.

any help would be apreciated

if it is auto i would say that there is either a switch on your transmission or a switch on your tbar selector. if it is manual i would say it is on your gearbox

may sound stupid but have u checked the bulbs? and theres no auto 3L ln106's so yes its on the gearbox

i have checked the bolbs and to see they have a clean connection. ive also checked round the gear box to make sure al the wiring has a clean connections but no luck yet

If you have checked globes and fuses the only other two things it could be are either wiring or the reverse switch. I would be testing the switch first

There are only two electrical connections to your gearbox, one is the 4wd light switch and the other is the reverse lights switch. Both are on the drivers side, the reverse light switch is the one about half way up the side of the box about level with the gear shifter. To test if the switch is working, set you multimeter to ohms and place one probe of each of the two wires coming from the switch. When reverse is selected, you should have 0 ohms (or close to). If the switch is OK, start hunting your wiring.
