I was wondering what series a landrover would be if it was built in 1954? (If they where even being built back then)

Also, does anyone know if there are accessories available, like lockers etc?

Been built since 1947. Lockers exist (RD03 I think). I think it would be a Series I

Built in 54 probably rebult several times since... Might find that its a real mixture of bits from all series wagons - after all 50 years is a long time for an off-roader....

A '54 is a series 1 landie and is collectors vintage if it original.
A second windscreen wiper was an accessory back then.

there were three wheelbases available in 1954 :#1 80in (this was its last year of production) #2 86inch (built from 1954-1956) and the 107inch wheelbase (the first "long" wheelbase) only one engine was available, this was the 1,997cc petrol four cyl. it produced a wopping 52bhp @ 4000 rpm and 101lb ft @ 1500 rpm The "80" weighed 2,604lbs, the "86" 2,702lbs and the "107" 3,031lbs. in the year 1954-1955 landrover sold a total of 28,882 vehicles world wide. the first landrover went on show at the amsterdam motor show on the 30th april 1948.

The TREKKA!

Based on a landrover series 2 [styling only if you can believe that!]. It was made from a combination of Skoda engines and NZ made stuff - they traded the engines for lamb carcasses [!] when the czech's were struggling under the cold war politics of the time.

They hoped it would appeal to the utilitarian rural market - but the damn thing was only 2 wheel drive! They did export it to Indonesia and Australia. It was all going OK but the governement changed the import laws and the Japanese made vehicles turned out to be cheap AND reliable. Bad news for the Trekka.

Bodge, thanks for the story on the Trekka. I saw one at the tip about 20 years ago. At a distance I thought it was a Landy and I thought all my birthdays had come at once, but alas! By the way, What good would sheep carcasses be to anyone after Kiwi's had finished with them?
