Needing a new turbo for 1hz`

Hey,

I got a 105 with a 1hzt in it, i have DTS system and needing a new turbo.

after 3200 rpm under load, the car dies in power and if i hold my foot flat, there is a SHIT load of smoke out the back, and if i back off straight away, there really isnt much at all, enough to smell.. the boost gauge goes into 12 vacumm too, then after about 4 or 5 seconds, the car resumes to boost as normal. WHen normally driving, the fumes reek of a awful stench, like oil is burning and the enigne burns oil as well. I do believe the enigne is fine.

The turbo also has a fair amount of oil in the cold side and alot of shaft play back and fwds, side to side.. so much so the wheel hits the housing. after breif inspection, the blades are undamaged. the wheel also grinds as it spins, indicating shot bearings.

I am looking to get a new turbo, pref a garrett unit. Just wondering, where do i get one and what type of turbo should i get?

cheers

If i was you, i would be getting the engine checked before you strap a new turbo to it!! But on that note put a garrett on it!

Mate, I would check the shaft play and if it is as bad as you say, dont leave it long before you fix it. I had a turbo self destruct due to shaft play like you talk about, shrapnel got sucked into the engine.
I was lucky, I only had to completely strip the engine, fit new pistons and rings and bearings throughout, replace a few bent valves, replace the turbo and refit it all
could have written off the engine with the size of some of the shrapnel I pulled out of it.

this sounds like it could be due to the intake air hose sucking closed before the turbo and restriciting air flow?

i to would agree with it sounds like your intake hose is sucking in then you are just overfuelling and sending it all out the back as black smoke. if there is alot of oil in the cold side like you say the oil could of weakend the intake hose now allowing it to suck in.

Yeah, it might be that but i have had a look, and there seems to be nothing restricting anything anywhere...? I dble check everything again.
