G'day All,
Well one of the TDs decided to unscrew itself the other day and fall apart so im on the hunt for some new shocks, wanting at lest 300mm of travel in them, there going in the rear of a gq cab chassis.
Any recommendations???
Cheers

I had heaps of trouble with TD's on one of my trucks....... using EFS Extremes on that one now and it gives no probs at all.....
Not adjustable, but big shafts etc are still there

I've heard of a few of these, some of the parts are seizing, I believe it had somehting to do with the adjustment?
Ive been running some Pro Comps for a bit and I'm really happy with them. They've taken a few big knocks and touch wood had no probs.
Cheers, Dano.

Youv'e simply joined the MANY people who have had TD shocks, broke them, then moved on to something that can last.
Weve all been through it.
The only people who say good things about the tough dogs are those
who havent broken theirs YET, dont worry it WILL happen.
I broke mine, then went EFS, havent had a problem since.
Hopefully this saves someone buying thier crap and having to go
through what we have.

Something i found in another thread ,
In mid to Late January Superior Engineering's Range Of remote Reservoir shocks to suit toyota and nissan's, 2,3,4,5,6 inch lifts will be released!
30 stage adjustable externally on rebound as well as 30 stage adjustable externally on the compression.
Fully rebuildable as well !
They come in either piggy-back or remote canister.
The are made to suit our specs and can be made to any size we require.
Price will not be much more expensive than the tough dog 45mm so that make them a hell of a lot better option than any other shock on the market.
Full details will be posted on our website in early to mid january and they will be available for sale by late january.
At this stage we are not giving away much more detail until there launch.
If you are looking at purchasing shocks within a month or so it may pay wait.

Had the same issues with TD loved the in cab and being able to adjust them on the go but went EFS Xtremes found them to be OK so far a bit hard at speed on rough roads but I am running heavy duty springs to tow a van

I'd be giving Shane at Suspension Stuff a call before making any decisions. There are different shocks for different setups and driving styles, so what suits one person might not suit the other.
Eg. i run procomp shock as i like the soft (very soft) ride, and haven't had any dramas with them. One of my mates runs EFS Extremes in his 80s, they suit his car/springs and driving styles perfectly, but i find them far too stiff (rebound on them is hella-slow).
Horses for courses.

hey guys, sorry about the (shhh!) info on the shocks but its still early days. Mick and I have been working hard on the designs of these and the first test set should be ready in a few days. Then I need to get them dyno'ed to give me some baselines on the valving and adjustments. I will post up all the info and the shock dyno curves as soon as i get them (prob mid/end next week). Once i have all the baselines then its tesing time - yeehaaa. I will start playing with custom valving (digressive / flutter disc stacks) to get and idea of what will be good for each specific vehicle and its use. The advantage then is we will have all the custom vale discs available and baselines dyno curves done so guys can just send shocks to us to be adjusted &/or freshened up to comp specs, which is the big advantage of having FULLY rebuildable shocks.
I will keep you guys posted!
Greg

Please give these shocks an absolute caning before you release them, as the Boss ones were a bit of a dissapointment for many it seems.

Hey cookie monster, you still have your shock lying around??? Went opposite lock in brookvale on friday to show em and find out what they can do, the piston is ment to be spot welded onto the shaft, mine had no signs of spot welding at all? Yours the same??? Also how long have you had them in you troll?? Bit of a manufacturing fault, it's been sent over to head office for a closer look, see what happens...

TJM's NEW XGS GOLD EDITION SHOCK is verry good, I did all the testing on them for 2 years in the FATROZA doing things like OUTBACK CHALLENGE ect ect, they never let me down & my ride handling was improved.
cheers piglet

They have no warranty now so Suspension Stuff and Superior stopped selling them and they too soft on the hardest setting.

I heard the same when i was shock shopping.....and i end up buying the 45mm Boss adjustables (4H.com.au)
They are very good so far, and provide exellent adjustment.
if they have a down side (as they are a good price too) is that the eyelets are interchangable. (so they come seperate, for individual needs.)
the shaft is threaded(although quite chunky) at the top.
Now if you just screw em on and then bolt up and go, they will unscrew at the eyelet.
2 drops of Loctite and i have never had a problem since.(4H recommend loctite too.....should have asked!)
Handle great on road on 7-8 out of 12 on the dial.
off road i leave em on 7 or even down to 5 in the real flexy stuff.
had a curious feel after an hour and a half of corrungations (Cooma to Batemans, on the Bendethra dirt road) and they were warm, but not hot enough to make me let go.
I was at an average of 90-100km/h, setting on 7.
edit: oh and on setting 10 or above they are way WAY too stiff. shudders through the truck on small pot holes. on 3 or lower, i feel like im driving a boat. I bought mine early-mid last year

I would recommend EFS Extremes or Pro Comp. Neither of these are adjustable but are built strong at reasonable prices. We sell quite a few of these with no problems at all. Give me a call if your interested. Cheers Dave.

If it popped out under extension in normal use then would that not suggest that the damage could have been caused by them topping out - and ripping them selves apart? because they were too short for your vehicles suspension set up?
or have i missed something there?
Please note im not saying TD's dont have problems in any way shape or form. just wondering if there are contributing factors.

no signs of spot welding at all, and the shocks and springs were a matched pair bought as a kit!

Just thought i would piont out that there is no such thing as an indestructable shocker. They fit Fox shocks to some of the high end camper trailers and when i lived in the Kimberly i have seen them fail along with every other brand out there from bilsteins through to konis and OME's.
