Exo tubing size suggestions

Hi all
I'll be building an internal cage in the devil soon, and linking it to an exo through the roof.
The picture shows roughly what i have in mind, so any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. (sorry about the horrible paint chop )
A friend has suggested that i make the exo out of half inch solid bar since the internal cage will supply the strength and the exo is just to stop rubbing on trees and rollover panel protection. But i just can't see it being strong enough to do the job and will look crap.
I will have a 38mm die for the internal cage so i could use that, but i'd consider going to 25mm tube if it will save some weight up high. It will cost me for another die, but if it's going to save a decent amount of weight it will be worth it.j The way i see it, if i put the diagonals on the exo, i can get away with not using them on the internal - your thoughts on this?
i will probably scrap the bar that goes over the bonnet and at the back since there is already a rear roll bar. On the front i will bolt a support plate on the bottom of the A pillar to provide lateral support for the brush bars and side bars.
Do you think the secondary door is going to be a pain in the arse for any Navi? I will make it removable and latch with a slotted drop pin like the tailgates of landrovers and trailers have.
The side bar will be removeable and both the side bar and a pillar bars will have a rubber bush to isolate from the chassis
