Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey all,

After searching through a whole bunch of previous clutch problems on Nissans, I can't seem to find any really good information on my problem.

VEHICLE:
TB42 1991 LWB wagon with standard engine and exhaust.

BACKGROUND:
I had my clutch replaced in November last year for a heavy duty one by a mechanic here in Syd. I have only driven it around 3000km since. The last time I drove it I was doing a creek crossing followed by some hill climbs and a 5 km drive home. It was parked in the shed for one month after that. Then the problems occurred.

PROBLEM:
The clutch is now not working. The wagon starts in neutral, but can't start in gear regardless of whether your foot is on or off the clutch. There is pressure under the clutch pedal still. The pedal will push into the floor and return smoothly as per normal.

WHAT WE HAVE TRIED:
1. Checked that there is fluid. There is.

2. Checked that the slave cylinder is working. It is moving aroun 3-5 cm as it should be.

3. Tried driving in low 4x4 with foot on clutch pedal for about 30 min. No cigar.

4. Tried starting the vehicle in gear in low 4x4 hard against a large tree to put load on. No cigar.

5. Tried driving through lots of twisty and uneven drains/ditches/quarry to flex everything and produce some load. No cigar.

We are trying to not have to pull out the gearbox, as we don't have workshop nearby anymore. So, if you fellas have any idea what is happening let me know. However, I think you will all say the same thing: drop the gear box out and free it up. Fingers crossed though.

Does anyone know why Nissan decided to not have an inspection hole for the clutch?

I've fixed a sticking/siezed clutch on a Rangiey using the start against a tree thing.
Maybe try spraying some WD spray into the bellhousing every couple of days and it might help it free up

Sounds like the clutch plate has frozen to the flywheel / pressure plate.

**Whatever you do, I wouldnt recommend spraying anything into the bellhousing as it will contaminate the clutch friction material and be ruined.**

You can try to free it up by putting it in low, holding the clutch pedal down and holding the brakes on ( or a tree as suggested if that takes your fancy). This shold put torque on the clutch plate and hopefully it will unstick itself.
You will know when it releases.

If that doesnt work , it would be a gearbox out job.

could be release bearing rusted up........ just a sugestion.. its happened to be be4...

has happened to me before on my td42 , but i was lucky and it came unstuck with clutch pedal to floor , in reverse , and started it , i heard a loud bang as it released ,
just wondering if the td42 is a reduction starter and the tb42 is a normal starter ??? , if there is a difference maybe the td starter will have enough grunt to free it up , if they are the same or it wont fit then just ignor that last bit

just an idea if u have a winch or another car maybe try dragging it in low 4 if it wont start.

Try towing it with another car with yours in gear with your foot on the clutch thats worked for me in the past
