Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Has anyone compared the prices between BOC / Air Liquide for Argoshield / Argon bottle rental.
I'm lucky to go though a bottle every 2 years, but the rental kills me.

It's still cheaper than disposeables though.

Anyone know how to save any coin on this? Smaller bottles are bugger all cheaper.

If you want the gas you bend over and take the monthly bills like everyone else or pull out the rivet gun..
All the suppliers have similar pricing schedules.

I pay 17 bucks a month from BOC. I hardly use the MIG but its still worth paying becuase that one time you need to use it, it makes life so easy!

Rivet gun is compressed air. $99 GMC compressor w/ integrated cylinder going strong and no rental

Why not buy one? There is a guy selling filled D-size bottles (in NSW though) for $289 on ebay. Charges $89 for a refill. There must be similar deals in Qld.

Should pay for itself reasonably fast..? Or is that too exxy?

I Did as I have 5 on rental at any one time. BOC seems dear (142 per fill + rent for argon e2) so I ended up going with air liquide ($70 ea fill for e). How wrong I was!!!! They are a rip off of note. They charge a rental then later another fee for not exchanging the cylinder often enough. I have to call the guy too, see if he has a bottle in stock and see if he is there - which is about 1hr a day.

Also air liquide gasses are not as suitable / specific and weld worse on the mig etc

I'm going back to BOC.

Bottle rental companies should be investigated by the competition watchdog, i dont know how they have gotten away with charging so farken much for so long. Dont tell me they arent all in on it together with backhanded agreements. None of em will fill youre own bottle either. If one was to do it, they would get all the business, theyre all in cahoots.

thats only 2 years rental, and the fill price is about what i paid for my last exchange. the only problem is no one else will fill them if he shuts up shop

Interesting... how do places that own their own bottles get them filled then? Or is basically everyone paying rental?

I found SupaGas at Beenleigh HEAPS cheaper than any of the opposition.

My rental agreement is from memory $30 a month, however if I return a bottle and do not get another I do not pay any rent. For the $90 a bottle of gas I now find it cheaper to save up on my projects and do them in one hit and then return the bottle (even if half full).

For the smaller odd jobs I just keep some flux core wire, yeah not as good but does the trick.

Just check with sales in BOC and see what they can do for you.

You're probably right, but I can't think of any fair reason why it should be illegal, it is not like it's a dangerous gas.

the only reason it would be illegal is that someone important from the industry, or paid by the industry, made it a law to protect the industry's interests.

They're called lobbyists, many people make a living out of this practice.
