ideally looking for
firestone super all traction
or good year hi miler as per link
or something in any brand similar, reproduction is fine

yep they are no longer made, although the sales bloke said they make a reproduction of them somewhere. He couldn't tell me where though.
I'm hoping someone may know of old stock or who may reproduce them

Oh yeah the link is not goodyear australia (its Philipines or something)

i'd try malaysia - they have lots of mud etc, hence the simex tyres coming from there.

Bridgestone do firestone tyres try them.

What size do you want??

Try and find some Firestone SATs, had them on my Sierra and they were the best tyre I've ever owned. Gwagensteve had/has some 7.50s. Might try the landrover guys for them as they aren't made or even the Kiwis as apparently they are still available there.

MRF is the brand, they come in 14ply sidewall for outback hardtouring - split rims, tubes style... not really for weekend warrior kinda shit... none of the rags really are.

I run MRF super traction 7.50 16's on my 60 series and recon they are a great bush tire, heaps of grip. i had 35' wrangler MT/R's on there before and was expecting to be getting stuck heaps with the skinnies, but they have got me though everywhere so far....
They do have a stiff side wall, but i have run them on the beach 14 psi no problem, my mate behind me was telling me that they were kicking up a mad rooster tail. He also hangs way back on the bush tracks as he recons they are constantly spitting rock out the back, must have something to do with "ground pressure" and the aggressive tread.
Also, i saw a sumo ST 888 in a 7.50 16 the other day, nice a chunky as well.
Although a 7.50 16 is normally about 32' the sumo's look way taller.

What about the Dunlop Super Gripper...?



I had some 30x7R15 Sumotire LTT's on my old Sierra - tall, skinny, heaps of tread (much like the ones pictured in this thread). The link is http://www.sumotire.com , but the website is currently down.

Silverstone do an Extra Grip Special which is almost an exact
copy of the goodyear have sold a few sets not a bad tyre.
Bigget size they do is a 7.50-16.

SATs kick ass but simex r no 1

Simex make a tyre similiar to the tread patterns shown. Its a specialist rock tyre with rubber hardness suited to WA mining environment. I ran 5 of these on my GQ. Great tyre in the bush, but a real hazard getting there in the wet. The sidewalls are so stiff that the vehicle tended to wobble down the road and also had a jagged action when turning thru seeping bends.
When the tread blocks started to wear they still gripped like crazy in the bush, but became even more tricky to drive on the bitumen.
I got them from a tyre dealer in Oakleigh Melb., I think around the $160 a tyre about 6 yrs ago. I bought 10 ply.

Not sure if I would go the cross ply route again. Certainly no punctures though. 7.50 16 size. Very difficult to balance on split rims also, and heavy to swap over as well.
They are marketed under the name Simex ST-10, and avail in 8,10, 12 and 14 ply I believe. They don't bag too well as the side walls are really stiff - I drove 3 k's without a valve stem on one tyre without knowing it - unfortunately it rooted the tyre - cracked the internal wall surface so impossible to keep a tube inflated.

well im not having much luck with this style of tread pattern as all you ars@holes dont buy cheese cutters anymore and the tyre manufactures are dropping them out of their ranges.
its looking like simex may be the tallest and narrowest decent rubber I can get.
I would still like narrower than 9" if I could.

try the st-10, its 7.5r16. tall and skinny

Why not consider something in a 235/85/16 only a fraction wider and taller than a 7.50/16 or if your after a bit taller 255/85/16

The 235 will open up a lot more options and if your looking for something more aggresive look at the skinny swampers there an awesome tyre.

my current one runs 34 10.5 swampers and they're great but on the new rig I'd like to try a narrower tyre to try and up the ground pressure and I think It will pull less power out of the little 1.3 power house.

What sort of compound are you after? I had some Ling Long 7.5x16 on my Patrol split rims. They were a very soft compound - too soft for me, and bloody dangerous in the wet (drift on demand).

I am running 235/85s on my pajero, I am pretty certain tha the tread would be under 9' wide .. Will take a better look at lunchtime.

Hey mate, there's a bid difference between a 750 and a 900.
One is 31-32inch and the other is 36-37inch. 8.2516 is inbetween, and is 34-35inch.

Firestone SAT's aren't available anymore, but there's heaps of copy's out there, mainly from indian and malaysian manufacturers.

I run Michelin XZL's in 9.0016 and reckon they're awesome.

Tall and narrow is better on every terrain except rock.

most tyre dealers can get in xply tyres for you. The city dealers maybe to slack to look them up I dont no.!
Xply is a bit wandery on the bitchemen. have you considered this?
If your local wont do the lookup go to the next place down the road. There is plenty of diferent tread pattern and different ply rating available. Just not in stock at branch.
