Hey All,

Been a rough 2 days with my Patrol, let me explain.

CAR - 2003, GU Patrol ST Wagon with ZD30, 143,000km

EXTRAS- Have removed all aftermarket electroncs to isolate issue as original suspect dual battery and RedARc isolator.

NRMA installed new 120Amp Hour Battery last night and previous jump start and bloke saying drive her for 45 minutes etc. Didnt help me when she died the second time and I bought the $197 dollar battery.

SYMPTONS - Originally just like a flat battery when the solonoid clicks when you try and start her. Hence suspect flat battery at first, jump start and charge for 45minutes, then tried again wouldnt start. Alternator was charing fine and then bought new battery and all good.

CURRENT Now when you start with the brand new battery solenoid just clicks, like flat battery. Meter showing 12.8v on NEW battery ARGHHHHHH

Once you release the key from Start to ACC gauges on dash (Fuel) seem to fall baclk to empty and then rise again. Like a short ?

I know it appears time to go to a auto but I hate other working on my car. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar issue and knows which wire I can disconnect to isolate the starter soloniod ? Wiring loom anyone ?

Well don't I feel like the stupid F &% K.

I am a telecomunications technican by trade so I should know better. Anyhow went back out and checked the earth.

Checked the resistance from the battery neg terminal to the engine neg terminal bolt. SHOWED 2M Ohms

Then checked from the actual battery neg clamp to same engien bolt, Hmmmm like 16 ohms. Found the issue. Pulled the neg battery terminal off and the complete inside was taht corrosion white. Cleaned her back with emery paper , checked resistance and BINGO all good.

Annoying this is I never needed that new battery after all !!! or that new $120 battery charger I bought today as well.
