Quick question

Anyone know if its OK to use hardwood when lifting a tray ? I figured it's non passenger so not really a issue, plus my rig had wood there alreay shaped along the chassis to make it flat for the tray ?

Timber on chassis then big U-bolts to clamp it together.
I can't see any reason why you couldn't do it the same today.

I agree, I see no problem with it aslong as you are not retaining the timber to the chassis, then retaining the tray to the timber.

vibrations could cause any screws into the timber to loosen or let go over time.

But big U-bolts (as in your pic) clamping tray to chassis will work fine.

Bornedrill exploration drill rigs were/are mounted this way too.

x2 on using big U-bolts from the chassis to the tray to clamp it all on. Dont rely on fixing directly to the timber.

If you are going to recut new peices of timber and use U bolts, it will probably be quicker and neater and stronger to make steel supports

Well finished the lift today. really happy with the results.

Sounds like a beast, but old cars are a passion and also a pain to keep going !! But half the fun
