Which older models?
I had a 1980 MQ ute and it had the radio pod. I had 2 vans and a station wagon too and all had pods also (1981-1983). My brothers 1984 annaversery madel had a rounder pod, but still there.
The only difference I have seen is either brown or blue interior and the round or square shape pods.

what mq/ks didnt have the radio pods on the dash ????
ive got an original am/fm cassette system here from a mq and its a good fit up
the problem is people butcher the dash pods and dont fit radios/stereos properly thats why they dont work/fit good

Its possible, if it didnt have a pod when it was new, it would have come without a radio/casstele/ sound thing.
It was an optional extra afterall.
