hi there
im relatively new on here but im not new to toyotas
as such there are no manual 1UZ's out there, (soarers and the like always had autos behind them) so any manual conversion bits n peices are going to have to be a custom creation but im lead to believe niteparts in NZ does a bellhousing to suit. also depends if your gearbox is a W5x or a R15x style box. alternatively a tremec TKO could be tasty although ghastly expensive.
secondly you would need to address the engine mounts, easy enough to make if you are handy with a welder.
then the wiring. Wiring can be a nightmare of a task, esp for a beginner who hasnt done an engine conversion before, but it can also be a nightmare for the seasoned
budget also comes into it, whatever you think you will spend double it and in some cases triple it.
but yeah, thats about all of the top of my head. the 1UZ's are an absolutely bulletproof engine, whether or not the will be better than a diesel offroad it debatable. the 1uz while having more capacity, wont have the low down torque that the 3L has. but the 3L has a significantly lower rev range and a hell of a lot less killerWasps

I did it about 5 years ago (91 4runner) you can get bellhousing, clutch, flywheel etc from Dellows or Castlemaine Rod shop. Engine mount I'm not sure if you can get them off the shelf now but they are not difficult to make.
As for the wiring there is about 10 wires from memory that need to be wired up and a few little things extra (mine was V6 so had most of the stuff that the Diesel won't). It is not to difficult to do
Mine cost about $6000 all up including new Rad, engineering etc........
I did most of it myself which helps with the cost

All i can say is "DONT GIVE CASTLEMAIN ROD SHOP ANY MONEY" they will rip you off, thats what they are good at, try and get your money back when they are in a different state of Aust, you wont and they know that and they continue to rip people off.
Try Ichiban Imports in Moorebank,Sydney, i have purchased Lexus engines on several occasions with happy results and they "WONT" rip you off...
