Spend the extra and get a series 3, you won't regret it.
S1's seem to break more and buying one second hand means no warranty

what effect will a s3have to the speedo if only running 31 tyres with standard diffs. and what revs would i be doin to at 100km/h?

by HRZOOK
I have a s3 with only 30" tyres
Hits about 4700rpm at 100k
But is is worth it off road

car will be mostly used on road so highway driveability is a major factor. Dont want it revvin its head off at 100km/h
Lower revs = longer motor life

biult4thrashing is a cary over from me feroza driving days and also email addy. pluss anyone thats seen the way i drive a car on or off road will agree. example feroza 3 engines in 3 years, both diffs, gearbox, hubs, bearings snapped shocks and bent springs.
No wonder i sold the thing and bought a sierra.

your revs will depend alot on your diff ratios and gearbox too remember

diffs are standard 90 wt. wanna run 31 tyres and still have a correct speedo and have the thing still driveable with out burning out the clutch in heavy trafic.

You have to remember HRZOOK has a coily and they have 3.9 diffs.
I have a 90 widetrack with standard 3.7 diffs and 31' inch Simex muds and series 3.
I reckon its ideal on road it revs at 3600rpm at 100k's and is very drivable and the power is always on tap as its in the power band all the time without over reving.

Your speedo won't be right either way.

as xtreem says your speedo won't be right. the crawler boxes only correct the gearing not the speedo which is still picked up off the rear driveshaft.
i've got the 4.16 low 1.6 hi box on my coily with the 3.909 diffs, the revs are 3700-3800 at a true 100km/h on 31" but the speedo reads 90km/h
you'll only get 3500-3600rpm with your 3.73 diffs at a true 100km/h
when i run my standard tyres (205's) on the series one box i get around 4200rpm at 100kmh (speedo is correct) and the performance is great - think a close ratio box!!!

Once you have 31's you will want bigger, its inevitable.
I currently can't really pull 5th with 34's and a s3 so I need to go lower again.
p.s. Did you come out to Gembrook with us???

The simex 31"s are closer to 30" then 31" when measured , Dont tyres expand at high speed ??? I guess the manufucturers rate them to there expanded size

Just to be a pain what sort of cash would we be looking at?

Thats correct
Spidertrax have recently given up production of their own gears. They are now made by Calmini on their behalf.

Why not add a bit of power ?? I could pull 35's in 5th with a S1 T/case
That way you are not reving the crapper out of the motor to move. I am all for correct gearing, but at some point you need to add a little power and torque as well.

Yes but you had a vit engine. I don't think it was the s1 that pushed those tyres.
I was more saying why not get the most gears you can currently buy becuase inevitably we all want bigger tyres.

Hi Germo or Ash
So you bought Mic's old zook heh. He was previously one of the M's in M&M Custom 4x4 Engineering. Now it is only Matt. Matt and I am now joining businesses together under the M&M banner. I will see what we can do tyres wise. Do you want new or happy with used?
PM and tell me what you actually got with the zook we might be able to help you out with the project as Matt is very familar with the zook.
Cheers
