engineering in brisbane?

new to brisbane, who should i call? who have people used with good results in the past?

i'm looking to mod the old troopy, but i'd like to keep it legal, it's a pain in the ass, but not looking to get deported either

i'll be doing all my own work, so don't need a shop as such, just the final OK/inspection and the paper work to support the mods for a blue plate (or two).

needing some advice as to how far i can go on this rig and still be within QLD law.

not that far... i know.

so, who should i end up giving all my $$$ to?

cheers

Depending on what you are going to modify whether it is engineerable but give TJM Coopers Plains a call.

thanks,

that's the kind of info i'm looking for. i know what i want to do, just need some advice on how to go about it.

i've had a read of the QLD vehicle regs online, but there is not much detailed info there.

never thought of getting a mod form from transport and having a go that way. i will give it a try.

anyone in particular i should talk to at TJM in coopers plains?

cheers

good luck mate. probly the best/cheapest way to go bout it is thru qld transport first. iv tried 3 places now to get my truck plated and at first they're all yeh mate we can do that, then when they see the truck they freak out and ring you to come pick it up. all the work is really well done, but no one wants to risk theyre ass to plate it. cant blame em really as its there livelihood but itd be better to get "not gunna happen" up front rather than "yeh mate bring it in" and then have to trailer it back hm again. so save yourself the dramas and find out 1st what you can and cant do! however, if yo do get some one we'd all love to know them!

true that!

last thing i want is a bunch of time/money and then find out it's a trailer only rig (just yet  )

i guess i'll post up as to how it goes/what i can mod.

cheers

If you go through transport do they need to inspect the vehicle.

Talk to Darren or Jamie at TJM.

i would guess that they would, before any paper work or blue plate would be approved or issued.

won't hurt to fill out the form, and see what they say to what i'm planning to mod.

i'll see what Darren or Jamie has to say...

thanks again

try earl gilchrist

0417 229 723

he is who i am using to do my circuit car street registered including a 2 door mod, not blue plated, all signatory engineer.

just ask him, he will tell you yes or not straight away, not sure how into the 4wd stuff he is, never been interested in engineering mine

well after repeated phone calls and email, nothing! looks like TJM don't want my $$$.

they have displayed some of the WORST service (or lack) i have ever experienced in Australia. period. i would not recommend TJM in coopers plains, but YMMV.

meh, whatever...

the search continues.

What exactly are you trying to engineer as a lot of stuff just can't be like bigger tyres, big lifts etc

uhhhh, not really helpful mate, but thanks anyway. i'm very aware of the limitations of vehicle modifications here in QLD (and oz, in general) and i am looking for an approved engineer in BRISBANE to sign off on what i'm doing.

i am unfamiliar with the certification/approval process , but not the modifications.

this is not my first 4by.

if you have some insight or can turn me on to someone local, i'd love to hear it.

cheers

I dont know of that many modplate codes/mods that can be applied to 4x4's and be signed off, suspension doesn't need a modplate so long as it is within the rules, anything over can't be modplated, anything over tyre the tyre size for a specific car can't be modplated it is just illegal.

If you mention what you want modplated, maybe, just maybe someone can offer some past experience/knowledge on weather it can be done or not and then you can go from there, rather than getting poor customer service and the run around, you will get that 9/10 because as was said above, noone wants to lose there livelihood, a 4x4 with a decent amount of lift and 35s is copbait, short of that modplating a 4x4 is limited other than seats and engine conversions and brake upgrades etc. Well it is in QLD anyway.

Last but not least, unless a vehicle is 100% up to RWC and legal, a company like TJM will not touch it as it is not only there license, but also there company reputation as a whole, i assume they would not be interested unless the parts and work is performed by them.

well giving an indication of what you want to do may help people direct you to someone who perhaps specialises in those mods
