no brakes hilux 2.8l 91 model.

ok guys everytime i drive the lux the brakes are working then barely doing anything, on and off, im not losing any fluid and ive done maybe 10,000k since new pads and discs. no scraping noises when they do work. but i am getting myself used to the fact that i may have to double pump to stop, i find myself making sure they work before i come up to an intersection. last time i did something to the brakes would have been 3000ks ago when i took 1 front brake caliper off but i clamped the rubber line before then bled the lines after. they worked fine for about 2000ks after that and now im trying to ascertain the problem.
any ideas????

my money is on master cylinder.

yep sounds like the seal in the master cylinbder is bypassing. would cause the pedal to go to the ground without losing fluid.it will be bypassing from the high pressure side around the seal back to the low pressure side (resevoir) therefore causing no loss in fluid.

Is there an adjustment on the master cyl??
My lux has a similar problem, Ive just replaced front pads last week, they were bled properly, but I dont have to double pump before using them, but the pedal does go almost down to the floor.
Its not a problem, its just something Id like to sort out sooner rather than later.
Someone mentioned to me recently that there is an adjustment somewhere on the master cyl. or near it.

i have the disc brake conversion in the ass end of my lux now after some time i think i have air somewhere in the system but cant weem to trace it but yeay i'm really used to the double ... tripple pumps before slowing down ......but than again i think its a hilux thing

mine does the same thing. take the rear drums off and adjust the rear shoes up.. makes the world of difference. the self adjuster could b a bit how u going,,,
(also if ur hand break doesnt work.. adjust up there rear drums

I think youll find its what was said above the master cylinder, mine did the same and it was the master cylinder, you shouldnt have to double pump it.

i agree that i should never have to double pump, especially when i have two kids in the back quite often.
**update** it doesnt seem to have got worse or better, and i still havent found time to fix it or investigate. could it be a booster problem??

With the kids in the rig "quite often", perhaps you should find the time to fix it mate

it wont be the booster, it just magnifies the force your foot applies, so whern its gone, you dont need double pumps you just need to puch damned hard.

could also be ur rear drums wayyy out of adjustment. mine does this when they are out of adjustment
