Outer Limits 4x4 Board

i went to my local tyre store and asked for the procomp rock crawler rims 15x8 with -44 offset... i was told that come people have rubbing issues with their gq using this rim and may need wheel spacers to stop this..

why is this? and will they fit on a 91 gq

can some one also tell me which is the better wheel size 16" or 15" and what differences as in strength and pros and cons

I run 16x8 procomps on my GQ - obviously no rubbing being 16's.
I picked the 16s over 15s because i use my car as a tourer and 265/75 LT16s (MTR) have a higher load rating than the 31x10.5 r15 equivalent and therefore probably more resistant to punctures.
The downside to 16's are cost of tyres, which still wasn't bad (i think the rims were 140 each and tyres 278 each)

why -44 offset?

For 15x8s procomps you need -19 or for 16x8 you need -12.
There is no -44 for the Nissan stud pattern -50 is an option.

So if you're after a -44mm offset rim, and that in itself is going to have clearance issues, how the hell will a spacer fix anything?

not too sure im still trying to get some knowledge up with rims... i may have my off sets confused... i would like the rim to give me a wider stance, whats the biggest offset i can get for my patrol with out problems..

I'm pretty sure that anything with an offset bigger than -22mm will either have to be a special aftermarket brand, or a made-to-order. -22mm can be bought off the shelf at most good wheel/tyre shops.

As for clearance, that will entirely depend on your choice of tyres.

What size/brand/pattern tyre did you want to run?

I have just got my 15 x 8 -50 series 98 steel rims from Pro comp. They fit fine on the rear but the fronts hit the brake calliper. So I am getting a 5-6mm spacer and if it still dont fit I will be looking at shaving a few mm off the brake calliper but I rekon the spacers should make everything clear. I had to wait nearly 4 months for them to get to australia from america.

Is it hitting the outside radius of the caliper, or the outside face of the caliper?

The rim has a extra curve on the inside and its just hitting on the outer radius of the calliper if that makes sence. I drew a paint drawing to explain better. My paint skills ain't too good.

ok im thinking i might just stick with kings rims.. i dont want spacers or hassles..
i would love some 15x 10 rims but they arent legal in nsw, which means it wont pass engineer cert.. spewin!!

The last few sets i've bought were 15x8 -22mm offset Kings wheels (sunnies). Never had any problems with them whatsoever. I rate them highly!

With modifiy cars you are always gonna have hassles with the mods. To me a 6mm spacer is a very small hassle. The reason I am running the -50 offset rims is to stop the tyres scrubbing out on the inner guards at the rear and the spring mounts at the front under compression.
