cosidering a chop is a few thousand (depends on quality)
i think youll need a bit better trade than lwb bodies
your best bet would be to find a ute cab and cut rear panel of and get someone to fit it up 4 u
but everyone is chasin them so prices are a tad high at the moment

a few hundred for a wagon to ute chop ????
i wish
ive been ringing around (in qld)and the cheapest was around 4.5k and up from there ,hell i even got quoted 10k
noone is doin them for a coupla hundred
the rear walls outta the ute cabs are goin for more than that
thats why im doin mine myself i aint paying those prices
do a search on forum a bloke just got one finished (garth ??)and im sure it was around the 7.5 k mark

have you thought about how long it takes to cut a cab?

im no panel beater, but i did my ute chop, and i have no idea how long it actually took me,

but i do know that if you can get it done for $800 id go get a dozen cabs chopped and sell them here,

im guessing a pannel beater works for about $80 an hour, that only gives him 10 hours to chop, fit panel weld and seal the cab,

even on $40 an hour ,thats 20 hours to do the coversion
fabricator/panel beater would have flames hangin out his butt
$800 finished ,minus of course the rear wall, weather a 2nd handy or a new fabricated one
the fabricator/panel beater would be doin it for about $2 an hour
your cheaper option would be to try and find a ute cab
good luck with that also they start at around $500 +
(not saying there is no cheaper ones out there but youll be lookin for a while)
PS they was a cheap extra cab (shell only) just down the road from me for $500,but it had to be redone at its was not rite (a little twist in it )the bloke couldnt sell it,couldnt even give it to me (to much work to redo)so he got it scrapped

I think the problem here is the no-one is explaining their definition of a chop.
Are we talking panel work removed and rear welded or are we talking finished product, painted, window, lining, the Whole works?????

Anyone that is going to do a quality job will know the value and certainly charge more than a couple of hundred

ruffy,
even to just remove all associated parts do chop supply and weld rear wall on (without paint, trim and finish off)
would still cost more than $800
bloke down brissie way got one done about 6 months ago
drove wagon in,got chop done (using 2 hand rear wall and window)
to primer only,no trim no tray and it was 4k odd
if any one is doin wagon to ute chops that can be engineered for road use for $800,tell me where ill start shipin down the wagon shells

sorry i hurt ure little feelings there little captain
i am doin mine myself because i to was disgusted with THESE stupid and over the top prices
so maybe instead of sitting baggin other people maybe u SHOULD ring the places that do the conversions as i did , and u to will see that the prices i have said are not far from the TRUTH
REMEMBERING that it has to be legally modified for road use
there is a bloke on this forum that just got a wagon to ute conversion done (i think his name was garth??AND IT WAS AROUND THE 7.5K MARK)or have u not bothered to do any searches and just got on the soap box with out doin your homework
just for the RECORD here, i do have better things to do,i get on these forums for information and to offer an opinion for peoples problems (i did not INTENTIONALLY HIJACK YOUR THREAD,JUST PASSING U INFORMATION I KNOW OK !!!!),so if this is the attitude of people on this forum ive got better places to be
PS have u really looked into this with google searches and forum searches, with relation to prices seems u havent
if someone will swap u a wagon shell for an extra cab UTE shell thats great
GOOD LUCK WITH UR PROBLEMS

Thanks Nerida,
I'm more than aware of the time and costs involved as we do them here. I was merely explaining that you cannot use a generic term when there is so many variables.

ruffy,
thats cool man i understand
just kinda annoys me when people THINK they only cost a coupla hundred
jess ure lucky to get a rear wall for that
its just peoples perseption that u just cut one of and just weld the other on and all done, not quite that simple as u know
i to got told of the cheapies around and was WARNED to steer clear of cheap poor workmanship
but each to there own
and to the op,
there is a dual cab chop getting done on this forum and to get engineered after all work is done is around the $700 mark,(thats the cost ONLY for the engineer to pass the conversion)
