hi ,my td42t has got a leaking rear main crank seal its a auto 1994 im just wondering how long it takes to remove/replace auto,my mechanic is going to do the job but hasnt done one before but thought about 1 and a half hours to remove 2 plus hours to replace. but have heard they take alot longer so just trying to be ready for a bigger BILL, does that time frame sound right

they are just as hard to get out as the manual and since most mechanics charge 1300AUS to do a clutch im guessing the clutch the kit is around 700 so that leaves 600 in labour.
I couldnt see anyone getting one out in under 3 hours, they are big and heavy and require a fair bit of accessory removal.

Unfortunately I have become an expert at these g/boxes
. The cheats/easiest way is to just open the front door and push an engine crane in and hold the box through the hole in the floor for the shifters. refit is much easier if you have a body lift, if not we just spin the box to about 2 o'clock and push it forward onto the motor to clear the starter hump on bellhousing with the firewall. Its not to hard to do it yourself if you want to have a go at it. good luck.

I've had the manual out 3 times now and hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon
I'd allow a full days labour
