2005 GU Ute Radiator

Ok, i read in another post that the GU's (im gueesing the wagons) all had the wide radiator, except the 4.8 which had the thinner taller one.
can anyone shed light on which radiator was on which?

the reason i ask is that mine has sprung a pin hole leak, and i am struggling to find one, or even a repairer with access to parts.

I am avoiding genuine at the moment due to price (rather spend the same on an Alloy one)

Mine is 590mm or so wide and probably more like 650mm high, and goes from the bonnet latch area all the way down to the bottom x member near the front (reasonably expossed)
it is so far down the fan shroud stops then turns into a straight through section, of about 6 inches of radiator, that has no fan cooling what so ever, just lets the incoming breeze through.

my brother has a 99 GU 4.5 petty, and he has the wide one but only goes down to the bottom of the fan. (more like 900mm wide, but 450mm high)

I have seen Natrad, no luck, few otheres, no answers, called a mobile guy, he said he had never seen that radiator in a GU in his life.

It has Nissan stampings, and a Calsonic sticker. so i believe its genuine.
was there an option from the factory i have never heard of?
the brackets look stock and un-molested, so i dont beleive it is a mod done later (or its very neat)

can anyone help? or should i just save a bit and spend $1500 on a 55mm thick alloy with twin thermos?

An adrad replacement should set you back $500 to $600. Couple of people on here sell radiators. Do a search if your keen.

we do rads as well so you got me curious. I believe your is off a 04 on gu 4.8 petty, the measurement out of my book are core size of 630x570x32mm. the 4.2s run a core of 450x910x32. we could supply the 4.8 for around the $500 + freight mark.they are an alloy core with plastic tanks. would have to check when the suppliers are open in the morning to see what they owe me. I didnt realize they were different.

2005 saw the first of the changes to the ute chassis. From memory some were a bit mix and match. Should have a dropped box looking cross member instead of the pipe cross member like a GQ or earlier GU.

Rad will be similar to a 4.8, not sure on hose orietation.

the radiators were changed in the flat trays when the intercooled 4.2 was released about 03 my 04 model has the same type of radiator that you describe

All intercooled 4.2td GU's have the tall and narrow radiator(fits between chassis rails) which is the same as the 4.8 petrol and I belive series 3 onwards ZD30 have the same radiator size.
Non intercooled 4.2td, 4.5 petrols, 2.8td and early ZD30s all have the wide radiator and short radiators.(sits above the chassis rails)

You can change from the new model radiator to the old style with a few mods

was told by Nissan that the tall radiators were an update due to the cooling issues some 4.2 TD's were having. they reckon its about 10-15% better than the old one.
Only place that has them was Nationwideradiators.com.au.
Had to ring them though.
Adrad dont stock them yet, and the diesels are different to petrol.
