i think the only way to mate them up is to buy a bellhousing, try marks adapters althought they are pretty expensive and their website is terrible lol

what about mating it up to a G52?
still need a custom bellhousing?

youd still need a custom bellhousing.
g52s are weak and thats why hes using a 4runner box.you could do it but youd be replacing the g52 box every 2 weeks depending how you drive

GUT's has never damaged or broken on with a 1UZ. He did destroy a set or a T-Case gears tho.

everyone says they are weak but i dont know how they are breaking them!
iv given mine hell with the na 3rz and now turbod 3rz n never had any drama with it.
Maybe all the comp spec 2.8s have sooo much torque they are just rippin the teeth off the gears

well men its all sorted.. hunted around a bit more and dellow automotive make custom bellhousings to suit a 1jz and either a R151 or R150 4x4 box. I have a 87 4Runner that its going into. I want to do the conversion June / July holidays so i will put up a post when its finished. The reason i dont want to go with a g series box is because they are weaker and are also ageing, so its hard to find a second hand one in good nick.
If anyone is thinking of doing this conversion this is a big job particularly if your going to squeeze it into a hilux and expect it to cool properly. I have a 2wd lux with a 1JZ which is doable but ive heard from other people that if you are going to go 'proper' 4wding' you will have overheating problems, so a big thing with my conversion is installing the best and biggest cooling system possible. I will keep you posted.

I've done a 7mgte to r151f(which should be similar), the shafts in the r151 are shorter than the r154, because f the pull type clutch, but it can be done with the stock bell housing
i took 10mm out of the front and 5 out of the back, there s still i fair bit of meat there to bolt it up, i wouldn't like to go any more tho.
i also thickened up the fork that disengages the clutch and the plate that it bolts to get a better working angle on it
hasn't failed me yet, done 20k or so, been hard ones too

why not mount the radiator in the tray?
I know exactly what you mean about a tight squeeze by the way...ive seen a couple of the conversions up close and there isnt much room at all front to back
