So what are the dimensions of those stock wheel rims? I've got to know this when tyre shopping. Because I keep getting different numbers from different tyre stores about these rims when I try to describe them to them.

I dont know if they are the split rims as I dont know what to look for to tell. One guy I spoke to mentioned that they might be 750 16inchers.

What do you fellows and your infinite wisdom know about them?

the rims are 16"x5.5 steel split rims. The tyres that fit are the standard 7.5x16 that normally come with them although i have seen cruisers with 8.25x16 on them that fit without lift as well.

So the first number 7.5 x16 or 8.5 x16 is the tire width yes?

How can you tell that they are the split rims?

Anyone ever put anything wider like a 9.5 on their 16 rims?

the number is a british system and is more or less the height. They are truck tyres and most places should stock them. You might be able to go a bit wider, but its not really advisable. You can tell if they are split rims by looking at the steel ring which fits around usually the outside of the rim right where the rubber of the tyre joins. That ring will have a split in it, ie it wont be a continuous ring. Some rims came with the split on the inside, but generally only the chrome ones.

If you want wider tyres it might be a better choice to go for 7x15 or 8x15 rims which are cheap and will fit a huge selection of tyres that are all cheaper than 16" tyres.

also, dont give up on the rear tyre carrier idea, i made one for mine, so it cant be that difficult
