2.8TD Hilux, turbo is loosing pressure

Hey all, done some searching on toyotasurf.asn an on here but no real luck.

for the past 2 days my turbo has been leaking air pressure, it will build up to around 8-9psi then drop back to 6-7psi as soon as it hits 9psi. it is quite noisy as you can hear the air excaping from the turbo from in the cab. it usually only runs between 8-9psi anyway but it stays there. you can really notice the power loss too as i tow daily.

i have replaced the hose that runs from the front of the turbo to the wastegate so its not that and i noticed that there was a bit of a build up of soot on top of the turbo just behind the compressor wheel, just on top above where the water cooling pipes run in.

im guessing the issue is in the front half of the turbo as its loosing pressure before its reaching my intake. is there some sort of seal behind the compresor wheel that can be replaced? if so how much is involved. cost??

any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

have you checked the hoses between the turbo and the inlet manifold ? on my turbo (a ct20) there is a big O ring be hind the circlip that holds the compressor housing on .maybe that is leaking ?

sounds like you may have a crack in the exhaust housing, judging
by the fact that there is black soot there...what turbo is it?
