80 series land cruiser drive noise

I have a drive shaft noise in my 80 series standard wagon 1hz diesel when the vehicle is under very minimal load? It goes away when the accelerator is pushed and the vehicle is accelerating and does not usually happen when the car is decelerating. It usually happens when the car is coasting and there is very minimal throttle input at any speed. It is really annoying at highway speeds. You can't miss it as the noise is quite loud.

It appears to come from the gearbox/transfer case area. The noise sounds like a dry or shot clutch throw out bearing Would I be on the right track?

Would any one be able to shed some light?

mine was the slip joint was severly worn. Apparently anything bigger than a 2 inch lift on a landcruiser needs a double-cardin front shaft about $500 or a part time kit installed about $550.

Assuming you install everything yourself. I just did a 2x4 conversion on mine, drives heaps better now its not full-time

This is a very common issue on full time 80 series. A part time conversion will fix it amongst other things. Plenty of threads on here for you to do some research.

Try greasing the slip joint and see if it makes any difference ;)
