from the reading i have done the law states if the modification requires a mod plate then no, not allowed.

I don't live in QLD so I may be wrong

No idea but funny if Dillza's right, you can drive a XR6 but not a FJ45 with a crossflow. Funny system.

That's spot on, if the mod requires a mod plate then it's a no go till on your opens

It is a crock of shite, , you can drive a Falcon or Commodre with 190kw but you can't drive a heavy old kingswood with a 253 in it. Go figure

Think of of it like this, 3 years to save to get a good, late model, low kay motor

True, but a new 6 cyl falcon or commodore with more power, is still safer than an old kingswood with a 253 (about 140kw?)

ABS vs Brakes with minds of their own
Airbags vs solid dash to stop your face
handling vs boat like handling

But they can drive a 6 cylinder Kingswood were your points are still valid. It doesn't make sense at times but then again neither does the current Qld Government

I don't know how as the last time I saw teh rules it stated not allowed to drive car that has a mod plate, which is an engine conversion needs

I would be checking that because in that case upgraded brakes, changed seating capacity, seats changed, fuel tank change and a multitude of other things would also not be allowed and most of those could be seen as safety upgrades.

There would have to be an avenue to do a conversion to a later model motor, giving better emissions and similiar power output to other legal p plate vehicles.

When a friend's son was looking at buying a car late last year the one he really liked had a mod plate for the seats, had racing seats in it. Went to Qld transport to find out what the go was with the rules and was told he wouldn't be allowed to drive that car as it had a modification that required approval (mod plate) and his P plate licence didn't allow him to drive a vehicle with a mod plate

:)

Saw the friend's kid tonight and he confirmed with me that when he went to queensland transport he was told by them any car with a mod plate is a no go for P platers regardless of what the mod plate is for.

Had a look at the rules the other night and the only way he could have done that is to have an exemption letter
You are eligible to apply for an exemption to drive a high powered (performance) vehicle if:

you need to drive a high-powered (performance) vehicle:
-to, or from, your place of employment
-in the course of your employment
-to, or from, the education institution you attend
-to get medical treatment for yourself or a family member

or

the only car available to you is a high-powered (performance) vehicle:
-that you owned before 30 June 2007 and you have owned since, including the date you apply for the exemption
-that is owned or leased by a member of your immediate family†, or
that an immediate family member† uses as part of an employment or salary package agreement

and

there is no other transport available to you

and

not issuing an exemption will cause severe hardship.

Your traffic history will also be taken into consideration when your application is assessed.

† An immediate family member includes your:

approved carer or guardian
grandparent, or spouse of a grandparent
spouse
parent or step-parent.

Note: A spouse includes a de facto partner.

Your answer is on queensland tranport website google it its gr8 reading.
Not allowed 8cyl or more
No turbo 6cyl
No supercharged 6cyl
6cyl ok if it dosen't exceed 195kw they were going to extend it to 200kw
Turbo 3cyl ok but not to exceed 195kw
Turbo deisel ok but not the v8 and dose not exceed 195kw
So stick any 6cly x-flow in you want as they go well or if one likes holden use the v6.
Then when its done post some pics up!! Happy 4 wheeling.
