New 2.2 diesel

I have just read the spec's on the Kia/Hyundai 2.2 diesel and they are pumping out orsome power and torque out of such a small engine. Then I thought or is it that the Jap's are holding out on us as only the v8 in the cuiser has big power over the old version. If you consider that a 3 liter Prado with nearly a third more cubes is of the pace with the new shape I thought they would go for a bit more. Well the only thing is are they going to be as long lasting as Toyota I guess only time will tell.

I have been driving a new navara a work after driving the GU 4.2TD.

The Navara is only 2.5L and has 126kw which sounds great BUT its not.

I drive to work on dirt roads and dont really need 4wd but the power kicks in like a 2 stroke. This engine is totally useless under 1500rpm and still pretty gutless all the way to 2000rpm. Taking off on an incline requires you to ride the clutch at 1500rpm and doing the same with a load on the back around 2000rpm....and they say it can tow 3ton!!!!!

It may be better in an auto but we only have the manual.

Give me the 4.2TD or even my TB42 patrol.

Ive heard this from another guy about having to ride the clutch, but thought it more of a gearing issue than anything else. they need a lower 1st gear perhaps.

realy the navara needs a lower diff dearing as reverse is to high as well and it runs a 3.5 final gearing 3.9 would make a huge differance and save the clutch a bit

well I know numbers on paper don't mean as much as actual driving so has anyone taking it for a drive with van or big trailer in tow??

just drove the new IX35 which is the new compact SUV from Hyundai. It's a rocket ship. The Base Auto TD AWD will sell for under 40k so no doubt it will steal some sales from the rest. Even has hill decent control lol

The wifes car is the first version of the 2.2(114kw 343nm) and it flies!
Would love to take a new one for a spin. I guess there is a bit of lag there but the auto covers that.

Cheers Den
