Converting a feroza to diesel, been done?

G'day,
Just wondering if anyone has put a diesel engine into a feroza?
If so what engine was used and how hard was it to engineer?
It is just something that I have been wondering about for some time. I can image weight being quite a big issue and of course drivetrain items to match and fit.
Cheers.

Wow that sounds like quite a project!
I guess you would need to start with finding a car of a similar size but with a Diesel, possibly one from a wrecker or at the auctions, for write offs that is.
My guess is you will need to look at everything from the suspension to brakes and don't forget the fuel tank, apparently they are different - starting with the fuel pump!
I have never done a project quite like that but give me time and the space :-)

i know this is not the attitude your looking for but surely i HAS to be cheaper, easier and better just to buy a Rocky?
And if you like the look of the Fez then get a late model rocky with IFS they look very similar in alot of ways!
Sorry to be a defeatest but you are unlikely to put anything bigger than a 2.8 in anyway so i dont really see the point?

why do people always have to be negative
there would be no broblem in putting the diesel into the fez its no different then putting an 308 in a hilux
i will suggest a mazda RU its a 2lt and it is the same block as a mazda FE petrol so it is not a very heavy motor and as far as i know you can use the gearbox/transfer from a kia sportage to bolt it to as they run the mazda FE motor (in the early series anyway)
hope that helps

Thanks for all the replys.
Yeh I think this would be a huge amount of work and probably not worth it. I just aquired a cheap feroza to wreck and use on my other car, but it is just too good! The body is imaculate however the engine has done a big end.
Just looking for ideas on what to do with it and a diesel would be nice.
Cheers,

Its a shame your not closer. I have a complete SWB rocky rolling chassis, complete from 2.8 diesel, gearbox, transfer case, tailshafts, axles, that I want to get rid of.
It would probably be easier to fit the Feroza body to a SWB rolling chassis.

BundyRumandCoke i will be spending quite a bit of time in QLD within the next few months. Can you PM me how much you would want for the Rocky.
Cheers.

No need for a PM, a couple of hundred will get it. I pretty much just want to get rid of it, but its too good to take to the scrap metal yard. Its in Gladstone as well. You can have as much as you want in the pics, including panels and glass.

What a project!
Wish I had the time and a place to work on it!
Well maybe not but it will be interesting to see it back up and running.

i had a 3y petrol rocky that i converted to a 2.8 diesel rocky. bought a wreck with the lot in it. had to modify the engine mounts only ever so slightly, had to lift the motor about 8mm up to get enough sump clearance, ran the diesel wiring harness, fuel lines, cluster, speedo cable. i converted the tail shaft (but removing the slip yokes) and left the petrol diffs under it. (had an insane amount of torque due to diff gears).
had to modify some heater hoses to wrap around the engine as the hoses for the petrol were on the lh side and diesle on the rhs (feroza is on the rhs).
if you are slightly mechanically minded you might beable to do the conversion yourself (i did when i was a first year mechanic).

You could even recycle the mod plate

Im doing a diesel conversion right now. I have listed the possible
diesel engines that you can use such as the mazda RF, R2 the toyota 2LT and other engines, plus the reason why I converted my
Roza into a diesel. Here is the link.

Good luck to you.

The Mazda RF seems to have issues with head cracking..... an associate was seriously looking for another conversion.
I've never used one - just passing on a second hand opinion.....

Thats right mighty mouse,
The R2,RT and the RF are prone to head cracking if they overheat.
2LT also has a tendecy to crack when they overheat.
The people here in the Philippines, have a very simple solution, they
replace radiator from 2 core to 4 core radiators. I will do the same
thing with my Feroza.
