I have been informed by Berrima diesel that the only oil i should be using for my jacka is a fully synthetic oil due to its ultra low viscosity. I am currently using a 5w-30 penrite semisynthetic, however, i am still experiencing smoke even at idle. I change my oil and filter every 5000, fuel filter every 10, do you have any thoughts or experiences?

I serviced mine for the first time the week B4 last. (5000km) I used Castrol Magnatec. This is what is recomended by Castrol in their lube guide. Havn't experienced any smoke on start up, it actually seems to start better cold and hot and idle better.
Synthetic is good stuff but I can't justify using it when I change oil every 5000kms and the oil is in good nick when changed. Might see if CAT can do a SOS sample and test it!!!

But then it did shit it's self last friday nite but that was an unrelated problem..

I work for holden dealer and we use magnatec in them at work. Because the engine uses oil pressure to opperate the injectors the type of oil used is fairly important.

I now run Shell Helix synthetic, it is fantastic, runs normal even when cold.

I have just got a 3.1TD Jack, I'm Running Castrol Magnatec Diesel in it, it seems to run better than the valvoline that was in it when I got it
