Looking at a new one for my turbo'd 80.. Is there any point getting a Beaudesert system or is it just a waste of money? there can't be much difference between one from them and one from just an exhaust shop round the corner.

Cheers

If the shop around the corner can do one mandrel bent for cheaper than there is no difference.

without beeing a full on high hp car, does a mandrel bent system really do that much for a 4wd?? yeah the least restriction the better i understand that fully, but in relality when most 4wding manovers are done at lowish rpm and low speed, the right sized pipe and welded in bends shouldnt effect it much at all i would think??? i could be wrong, but if your only realistically talking 5 hp for a hand full of welds i wouldnt bother with the extra money...

You are right, mandrel bent systems are only if you are chasing every last kw. Mandrel bent systems for most cars is fine.

Most exhaust shops won't press bend anything over 2.5inch so if you want to go 3inch you usually have to go mandrel.

I fabricated a 3inch mandrel bent system for a turbo 1hz which had a 2.5 inch press system before and the improvments were quite noticable, especially when towing.

If you do anything make sure you do right from the turbo back, it's the initial exit from the turbo where most motors are strangled due to heat expansion and waste gate turbulents.

I've also heard that the mandrel systems are much better for controlling EGTs. Not sure if there is any truth in it or not.

How much do Beaudesert want for the kit exhaust for the 80?

Take it this a 1HZ turboed?

ah my point wasnt not using mandrel bends, it was mor about a whole systm out of one pice of tube, with all the bends, its quite technical, and if your not the most practiced quite easy to make a mistake some where, and then have to throw out the whole length,

what i was meaning is using pre bent mandrel sections and weldign them in instead, thats what i have done on my 75, and will propably do so again when i re route my exhaust. plus that way i can do it all my self, at home with limited tools, no need for a bender. that was more my point, you can save a bucket load that way, my system cost me half what the local shop wanted to charge me, and at that i think they wanted to charge me half what a beudesert system was.
