Tyre topic - sizes, metric vs imperial

Post by phat-customs »

What size tire do u goto in a 16 to get the same height as a 33 but only about 9" ish wide???
I would assume u'd have to goto a 16 instead of a 15??? Is there such a thing or is it going to be some odd ball size???

Are you saying you WANT a 16" or you would prefer a 15" but figure you probably have to get a 16" for this size?

I dont mind either way, but i assumed id have to goto a 16 to get a tall narrow tyre that was more common and therefore cheaper than a tall narrow 15. if there is something avail in a 15 ill be happy, but im equally happy to goto a 16.

google tyre size convertyer and you can play with sizing.

230/95/16 would be a 33, but dont know who makes one 230 is 9 1/4 inch wide

Well, a 7.50R16 is 32" and very narrow. Quite a common size and some brands would probably be pushing 33 (then again some will be close to 31). Basically equivalent to a 235/85X16 I think.

A 9.00R16 is fairly narrow and is a good 36" or so tall.

Have a look online eg http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/ ... ?techid=53.

I assume you know that the first number in a metric tyre is approx. the width in mm, so for 9" you are looking for 230mm (which you won't find, so look for 235mm).

I actually have a set of 7.50's on split rims but I fear ill be laughed at for running them.

Seems this is about as close as I get LT235/85R16

OR a LT255/85R16 Both seem to be oddball sizes and sound dear, but ill do some checking...

The right 7.50R16's will kick the arse of half the people who are laughing at you.

know plenty of guys running 255/85R16 mud terrains. But unsure if they are available in the new style.

Total agree there.
good range of tread pattern and construction type. Widely available as well

So does the op want advice on tyre or great bling wank for his/her associates.

Sllit rims seem to have more puncture issues from experience and friends experience. Dont know why
