My guess is you busted a rear axle, and when your in low with the centre diff lock activated its driving off the front wheels only. This is all guessing u have no diff locks etc. If u break an axle on an lsd rear u will lose all drive if not in 4wd because all the powers going to the broken axle, just like a spinning wheel.

would more than likely be a CV, or maybe the front diff centre. highly unlikely that u have busted a rear axel!

Why would he lose all drive if the centre diff lock is off then?

Ah i see, if im wrong i stand corrected. Just saying that cos its happened to me before, driving along doing nothing wild at all and lost all drive, just like it went into neutral, ended up being a rear axle. They can be quite weak

usually the only reason rear axels break is due to the wheel bearings either failing or way out of adjustment, and usually they will break the studs on the hub and spit the axel out so its pretty obvious..

u must been very unlucky with ur axel.. I've been running 38's for 7 years and never busted an axel.

I have a rear 80 axle at home that i replaced because it had seriously twisted splines. running 37's and a warm turbo diesel with lockers. I'm pretty sure that it was going to be toast if i left it in

dont drive it until you know what is broken. A broken CV can jam up and make it almost impossible to steer. Not something you want to have happen on road.

Thats what happened once, spat the studs, then i drilled it out an put bigger studs in it, and next time the axle just sheared, (and rolling 100 metres after it broke made it a PITA to get out, welded itself to the inside of the housing) Maybe i was just unlucky.

Just for a giggle, price a genuine cv from toyota. Freaking exhorbatant. Somewhere around the $900 mark off memory.

is the $200 one Chinese or Japanese made

I've had this issue with my cruiser when i replaced them with Chinese cvs.

shattered two cvs in two trips not doing anything too hard. sourced some Japanese made cvs and haven't had an issue

not saying to go Toyota cv's but just make sure that the ones u replace them with are of Japanese build

My mate in his 100 series did a cv. he lost all drive with CDL out because its just like a diff it'll send drive to the end with the least resistance.

mate had the same thing happen to mine, ended up being the left front
hub ( manual ) let go. sounds strange but cannot drive it unless centre lock is on.

I think you will find if you put manual hubs on the front you can't drive unless the centre lock is on. or hubs are locked in.

Dont Toyota dealers use only Toyota parts?

It would have to be a minimum $1k quote??

Dread to think how much it would of cost at Wodonga,,, considering their asking price for a dash clock was $460 and i could get the same at Wangaratta toyota for $390 odd... Out of curiousity ill price a clock at ballarat when i pick up the battletruck. ;)
