Engine Conversions and Airbags/Imobilizers, etc

As above I was thinking the when doing a engine conversion into mainly a Sierra but the probs could come up with Vits also.
Anyone had any probs with airbags, abs, keyless entry, Imolbilzers, etc etc

I have not heard of too much with G16b only the vss which is a pretty easy fix, also I have been told and read the M13A is a pain in the butt for imobilizers etc, but can be done.

Anyone used any of the Grand Vitara motors??

Joe, CJ, Steve, no any worries with the later engines?

if you are tapping a new motor into a car with airbags be carefull, but it should be ok. if the engine has an imobiliser than make sure you grab the coded keys etc. you can strip all the airbag and abs stuff from the donor vehicle if that is the way you are going and it won't affect the efi.

OK So the new motors into sierra should be ok too?

Just strip out the abs and airbag stuff, and its all ok but what about imobilzer stuff? Ive heard that can be the headache?

Do you need the coded keys for ever or ways of getting around it?

Yes, if the donor vehicle had an immobiliser, you must have the ICM (Immobiliser control module. Mounts near key). and you must have the matching coded key.
The only way I can see of bypassing the immobilizer system in Suzuki efi motors is by using your own after-market ECU. So yes, you need the key forever (unless said after-market ECU is used).

I have a 2005 Grand Vitara G16B in my Sierra. Great engine, mega horrible wiring; but worth it in the end :D
Mine had all the electrical things your worried about, and they were all dealt with or worked with; most just simply removed from the loom :)

What is the motor/donor vehicle your looking at?

Was thinking same as you GV

There seems to be a few options with J20A but was thinking wring might be a nightmare?

WOnder if the last of the Vits (1998's) had all the abs airbag alarms etc stuff on them?

The wiring for the G16 and J20 GV's are almost the same. Only small detailed differences.
I got the OK from an engineer today to put a J20a in my LJ81, so I might be dealing with that in the coming....umm years knowing me :lol:

Get the coded key and zip tie it to the module

Thanks all good info.

Yeah I think I might be the same with the J20a its a "one day Im gunna" kinda thing. But I didnt want to do it and find out I was gunna be up for a wring major headache! Seems it can all be done just got to take the time to do it right and have the right componets so it works, pref complete car!
