GQ geabox into GU?

I know this has been asked a hundred times before but in every thread it was never clear to me what was required to make it fit.
I have a GU that has lost 5th gear so the gearbox has to come out and be repaired or replaced.
I also have a hydraulic winch that i thought would be far better if I could run a seperate pump on the PTO of a GQ gearbox it It will fit without to much tunnel mods.
So from thoes in the know that have done this, what was required to make it fit.
I have a 99 GU wagon, td4.2t and manual.

The gear stick on the GQ sits to far forward for the GU, some people use the guts from a GQ and rebuild their GU box with that, as the cases and top plate are different.
but this doesn't help with the PTO idea.

If you where keen enough you could cut, weld and machine back the top plate of your GU box to fit on the GQ box, this would get the gear stick position right and allow for the PTO on the side.

The through-out bearing is a different size to. I'm sure you could easily work around this though, just something to look at.

I tried to use my mates GQ throughout bearing after waiting for over 4 weeks for nissan to order me one for my GU. No way it was fitting on there
