How much is car paint?

Hey my dads friend has all the spray gear as he sprays stuff every day (not cars though) and he said he'll spray it for free provided we provide the paint and get it ready etc to be sprayed.
It's a single cab ute and I only want to spray the cab.
Any idea how much it'd cost and is white cheaper than the other colours?
I'm pretty much after how much I should need (Eg, 2 litres) and what you think the paint will cost and where is a cheap place to buy it.
I guess some of the big car places like autobarn or whatever would have it?
I'll need primer etc as well I and clear coat??
Basically it's a shit old ute and I just want to make it look respectable not amazing, so if there is optional stuff i'd rather not go crazy on the quality as long as it looks neat as it's a 25+ year old truck at this point.
The proceedure would be to sand it down to metal and then cover the windows and crap and them prime it and then the rest is up to him i guess? How long does it take to dry also?

wow !!!
how longs a piece of string ???
go down to a reputable paint shop/supplier and have a yak to them
as for cost well did a mq wagon with supercrap $60/4 litre paint (white) plus a little primer, was basically a quick blow over and paint was ok,if paint worse and needs repairs then more money
did whole job in a few days, take everything off rub bak mask ect and put bak together
lasted a few years
then ive seen jobs that cost thousands of buks
enamel would be a cheap and hardy paint
dont strip bak to bare metal that escalates the cost dramitically
its not really the paint that would be your main consurn, bad preperation will result in a paint job lasting a few days

why????
the difference in cost is a few coats of primer. I dont think the bloke is after a show car finnish, if the paint is flaked then I would be going bare metal, a few coats of good primer then spray in a solid colour

IIRC, it cost me $350 to get my old MK ute painted in white enamel (whatever the water based stuff is). I stripped the car, stripped the paint (back to metal), etched it, primer/filler'd it, they did the final sand and colour coat. No clear coat or colour sand though.
Its a lot cheaper/easier to just do a top coat, but if there is already exposed metal, you might be better off just biting the bullet and going the whole hog.

if theres bare metal spots just fix those sections, no need watsoever to strip complete car to bare metal
if its just a daily driver, touch up those sections and scuff/sand the rest of the old paint up and then paint
bare metal entails ,
paint stripper (to remove old paint)
etch prime, the whole car , prime ,the whole car , then paint
quick respray
etch prime and prime the bare metal spots, shouldnt even need to prime the whole car
so yes the price difference will be dramatic, let alone the extra time
the mq wagon we painted a while ago, just repaired any sections ,scuffed the old paint ,then top coated the lot
still looks reasonable years later

2litres of colour
Are you using quick dry enamel? (cheap)
I would use 2k it is about $60/ L plus $40 for hardner
No clear coat required if it is NOT metalic paint
2K primer about 2L
After you have sprayed the primer your mate will probably expect you to rub it back for him.
Dries over night.
The paint will have mixing instructions on the tin, read them.
About $300+ inc, s/ paper and thinners etc.
Sand all over with 120 grit
Prime all over when primer drys, then wet sand with 400 grit.
Spray Q D white enamel.
