gq 4.2 turbo (low boost dont know why??)

I am trying to wind the boost up on my gq and it can only spool up to 14(dts setup). I have tried adjusting the rod on the actuator and it is out of adjustment. I have a boost adjuster on and it is out of adjustment, also I have tried to block the actuator off so it gets no presure to trip the wastegate valve. The valve moves freely and sounds like it hits metal when you open and close it.

What could i do to try get more boost out of this turbo.

maybe needs more fuel...

You need to increase the preload pressure on the actuator as the exhaust pressure will push the wastegate poppet valve open. I had to weld mine shut to get up to 20 psi out of it but my turbo is high flowed and modified.
And yes I have bigger pump and injectors plus custom water to air intercooler.

x2 you need more fuel. Mine could only make 14 pound when Igot it with the actuater line off screwed the pump up ond off she went.

If you dont have one get a pyro gauge

thanks fellas, the other day i adjusted the fuel 1/8 of a turn and it made a little difference but not much. i have a pyro and the etg is up aroung 400. i didnt want to put more fuel in if it wasnt going to change the boost presure.

how much boost should a dts turbo put out? Would it be much more than 14psi?

if its maxing at 400 degrees your pyro is either reading wrong or you have a whole heap of headroom to add fuel, which will make more boost

I always thought you could comfortably goto around the 600 mark. Correct me if im wrong. And i no a few guys go further than that again.

recommended lift point is 550* post turbo

depends how good your pyro is though...

i had the dts kit on my gq, i bloked the waste gate actuator line, and it hit the stopper on my boost guage, it was only a 20psi guage,

i just had my pump built, and when we re-installed it i cud winde the boost adjuster right out and it quite freely goes over 25psi so i set it at 20. egts get to 500 quite easly but back off and they drop away just as quick. on a hiflo denco kit with water to air and $$$$ pump

I just turned the fuel up and it doesnt get anymore than 14psi boost. does this sound like the turbo is nackered or what could it sound like??

maybe be a crack in the rear housing where the waste gate seals...

What about a blocked exhaust ? happened on my turbo petrol would not make high boost even though it still went ok dropped the dump pipe off and it maxed out my boost guage and blew an intercooler hose off .
