hi
im looking to redo my door panels on the inside
and was looking to find some brushed alluminium to make them out of
does nayone know where to find this stuff or any other material i could use that would look better ?
ive thought of checkerplate but i dont like the look of it on a door.
just wanted to know roughly what price the brushed stuff is and what thickness i would need roughly ? 1mm ? 3 mm ?

thanks

I have used and seen other people use 5mm ply. Cut it out and sand it back then clear coat, ALL GOOD. :)

If your car is kinda good, as in, not a shit box, give the aluminium a coat of clear polyurathane, or every time you touch it it will leave a black residue on your clothes, it is no big deal in my car as I usualy have a protective coating of mud on my clothes
Go stainless, burl wallnut or carbon fiber, mabee some crocodile skin.

If you are in Sydney you can get it from these places:

Capral Aluminium 1300 365 110

Ulrich Aluminium 9725 2377

Smart Aluminium 9526 7311

Alspec 9636 4999

Smorgon 9749 3000

The product you could use is 1.6mm thick clear anodised sheet.

It would be a good idea to clear coat it before you put it on the doors as it scratches easily.

Also. a company called Gravograph, sells a product called 'gravoply' or 'metalex' this is plastic and has a brushed aluminium look to it, also Mr Ply&wood can supply laminxes that are brushed aluminium look too.

Hope this helps

Yep, good products, just make sure you get the one with a PVC base substrate, NOT the one with a 'Traffolyte' base susbstrate. The PVC base is much more flexible, will not crack under screw head load/impact. Both of these products are used for industrial engraving purposes, the 'Traffolyte' base is chemical resistant, non electrically conductive (but the ally will be) and is made from formaldehyde resins, but is very brittle compared to PVC.
