hey guys, my hilux has a bloody persistent oil leak out the back of the engine. I've replaced the rear main 3 times in the past 4000km but to no avail, as well as reseated the sump 5 times, to no avail.
It's driving me insane, its dropping 1L of oil or more per 100km!!
Any ideas on whats going wrong? the headgasket is sealing perfectly, the rear oil welsh plug thing is brand new and sealing, and it only does it when the car is hot. I can leave it sitting cold for a week and it wont lose a drop but when its hot it loses HEAPS.
Any help is greatly appreciated; cheers guys.

nah its not from up top in the engine. I'm sure its leaking out of the rear main or the sump, but I don't know why...

Then its probably oil under pressure so rear main if its running down to the join were the bellhousing to the gearbox
A silly question is it engine oil, colour, have you had a look to see were its coming from

It's engine oil, no doubt about it. I'd know that smell of gear oil anyday
There's so much of it coming out I cant see exactly where its coming from. It's just everywhere, it's even all over the transfer case crossmember its coming out so violently.

go buy some strong degreaser and spray it on and pressure clean it off.
lay under the car till it gets hot and see where it's coming from?
stupid question but worth a try.
in the tappet cover on the 4y there is a one way valve sorta thing with a hose on the end of it that goes to the bottom of the carb and mine pisses out of the tappet cover end all the time all over the bonnet and the firewall and shit.just a thought?
cheers..smiley..

Oh I know what your talking about.
If that's blocked and not letting anything out thus causing a pressure build up then i'm going to rage.
But I doubt it's that, theres another hole on the rocker cover that goes to the intake hose that isnt a valve, so it shouldn't have any problems.

when u replaced the rear main seal did you check for a groove in the crank.
how high up the motor is oil visible
If its rear main then when u pull the clutch off youd see oil behind the flywheel from below the rear main.
Is oil visible on the side of the motor or just on the bottom of the bellhousing.

It might not be the rear main, looking at it I think it may be the headgasket :/
If it was the rear main it would leak when it was cold, which it doesn't.
And I can see oil all over the back of the motor up high, not just the base of the motor.
This is after I cleaned it of course.
