does anyone know if i need a body lift to fit 31's on my standard 83 swb paj?? also, to gain a 2" suspension lift, do i just need to buy longer shocks and wind up the torsion bar, as this model does not have coil springs?? any help appreciated.
and one more, i went to replace the ball joint and i couldn't get it out because the driveshaft was in the way, has any one done this on a silimar model??surely i don't need to take out the driveshaft to replace the ball joint :?:

31's will fit no worries.. You can get new rear springs, or reset the olds ones, wind the torsion bars up too match the rear and gain about 40mm lift.

Yes 31"s will be fine even without any lift.

Seppo, like you I have a torsion bar system on mine, I had to replace my suspension in any case but 31" muds fitted with ease, to go bigger you need a body lift plus the suspension lift as well.

Seppo,
regarding the ball joint. I'm guessing you're talking about the
lower ball joint ??? If so , I've just replaced mine, both sides, ( and if
it's similar to the later models ) and I had to disconect the upper ball
joint and the steering ball joint, remove the brake caliper and the
circlip on end of the axle so I could pivot the hub out and down off the
end of the axle and then down off the ball joint !
If that all makes sense
That was the only way I could change mine and it's no fun, hope
your's is easier, good luck.

Revnkev is correct.

Both upper and lower joint need to be seperated as well as the tie rod end.

Remove brake caliper then circlip from end of shaft and gently pivot complete assembly down and towards yourself to clear the lower joint and axle shaft.

Time consuming if joints won't "break" but not an overly hard job.

As everyone else is saying - 31's with no lift with no probs.
- wind torsions for lift in front.
- reset / replace / or add leaf to rear springs.
