Locker or gears?

I have a 1994 3.0 V6 that is mainly used for touring and towing my Trackabout off road camper. I also like an off road challenge but I am not into hard core driving. The vehicle has a three inch Lovells springs rear lift , OME torsion bars and shocks all round, 31 in Dick Cepek FCII tyres as running gear. Question for all is do I spend my hard earned on a set of lower ratio transfer gears or spend it on a front air locker. For my use what gives best value for money. Fitted there is not much $ difference.

I have both, and find that I rarely use the front locker - but I love the low range gears. Better engine braking down hills, and the ability to navigate obstacles at a lower speed are both very useful.
Having said that, on the few occasions (touring) when I've needed the front air locker it's made an incredible difference.
To be honest, I don't remember which I did first - and I want both in my next 4wd.

I have both also, so my 2 cents worth...... I would go for the front locker for the following reasons.
your only running 31" tyres
You're not into hard core off roading
The lower gears impact your top speed (5th gear) in low range = impact touring.
I find it is the front locker, not the low gears that get me thru or over the obstacles that stop others, the low gears just mean I can possibly take it slower and more controlled, however that is more related to my tyre size.
Go the locker !!
