Hi, i was wondering if it would be possible to fit a turbo diesel from a rocky into a feroza? What would i have to modify? eg: engine mounts, g/box?
2nd question is how much do fully reconditioned 1.6L roza motors go for and how much would a fully reco turbo diesel go for?
I'm interested in diesel cause dad drives a truck and theirs always 800 litres sitting outside
I thought the applause engines had a different cam which gave them a different power curve? How would this affect offroad performance?
We would be doing the engine swap ourselves, we've swapped a landrover diesel in a day so a roza shouldnt be much bother.
Also, you need to be aware of the gearing ratio differences between a feroza and Rocky.
From memory the Rockys have taller gearing ratios (numerically lower) due to the higher torque output of a diesel turbo engine. Ferozas on the other hand have a lower gearing ratios (numerically higher) due to its 1.sticks mill.
Agreed Rod, this isnt a one day job. You will be looking at changing motor about $2000-$3000, gearbox ( because the Feroza box doesnt bolt to the Rocky motor) $1000-$1500, transfer case (because its an integral part of the gearbox)another $800-$1200, Axles (because of the higher diff ratios and the fact that Rocky diff centres dont bolt into Feroza centres) Prop shafts, front suspension (because of all the extra weight you are now carrying- Motor 260kg, gearbox transfer case about 60-80kg) You then have to change wiring, clean fuel tanks, modify chassis/crossmembers, get it engineered, inspected, the list goes on and on.
Go for the replacement motor from an Applause, or Feroza. Much cheaper and easier.
I'm pretty sure that the rocky's also run a standard solid front diff with leaf springs. Where as the feroza's run independant front with torsion bars. This may also have to be changed. I have a Roza and am also looking at this transplant when my motor gives way. It might have to be off the road for a month or two but i think it would be well worth it in the end!
